  • Chemical Sugar Cravings or Habit?

    Every time I eat a full meat that completely fills me up, regardless of time of day or content of the meal, afterwards I have a severe "dessert" craving. Is there anything chemical behind this or is it simply habit? I'm fighting it the best I can, I was just curious.

    But more improtantly, am I even spelling 'habit' correctly? It looks wrong somehow.

    ROFL sorry I was just thinking what you and everybody else would think it the boards worst speller told you you speeled it right HABIT.

    Now to the serious stuff. Atkins is a high fat not meat eating plan for just that reason. protein is converted to sugar and suage increases blood sugar levels increaeing insulin levels and sweets wantings. Dr Atkins discussed the eating your proteins too high because of thsi very reason. it has now been shown that there are even cells in the small intestine to start this proicess so no longer does the protein need to get to the liver or musclre cells for this sugar conversion to start.

    So remember 30% proteins and 65% fats. Just as we don't want to bolus all our carbs in one meal neither do we want to eat a big serving of protein at one meal to make up for not havingit at other meals.

    remember too feeling full is a reaction of the stomach stretch receptors not a factor of satisfying hunger and we should bestopping eating when hunger is satisfied not stretch receptors activated.

    then there is that wonderful filing system in the brain and it remembers what you have done in days of old when you had this full up belly like at thanksgiving dinner when you high carbs and knows dessert is a coming based on past history. You need to bust this nerve connection and give it a new memory to assoiciate with fullness like taking a walk or something positive for your healthier smaller person and it should bring up those signals in the future.
