How many of you buy organic produce?

I belong to an organic coop called purple dragon.
I think not only is organic healthier but usually tastes better also.

just wondering who else eats organic.

Also what do you all do for organic meats?

    Re: Organic

Hi Tom, I buy organic when I can cause I know its much better for you then that other trash they are selling but can't aways afford to. I know where I am SC there is a grocery store called piggly wiggly and they have a large section of the store that is nothing but organic foods. Everything from produce to mixes and meats. But expect to pay just about double for it. Not that I can eat it on Atkins but my kids LOVE the organic children's cereals. I am looking for a health food store in the area and have heard of one, just have not found it yet. Good Luck....

LIving in Texas it is very easy to get organic. I cannot afford to buy anything organic in the grocery store but anything I can buy organic from a local farmer I do.

Im with Heidi. IF I can buy it, I do. If not, I dont fret. When the farmers markets start up here this spring, Ill be back to buying my eggs (no hormone, free range, cageless, bugeating, dirt scratching hens), and veggies there. Mylocal grocers dont sell organicmeats so I buy the regular meats and Im happy with them. When I go on a shopping trip to stlouis, I hit whole foods, traderjoes and now wildoats to stock up on things we dont have locally, try new things and just get my fix.

            Re: Organic

My boyfriend and I have been eating mostly organic for about 6 months now. It takes a little looking, but a lot of stores have specialty sections. As for meat, I had to do a little hunting, but I found that certain brands such as Laura's Lean Beef and Smart Chicken work for me. I'm not sure if they're certified organic, but they don't have the hormones and that's pretty important to me. I even get e-mail updates and cupons from Laura's Lean Beef website and I found it at SuperTarget just the other day, so it's findable at least in Oklahoma and Kansas.

Stop and SHop has an organic store brand called "Nature's Pride". There's a decent selection of foods, including meat. It's in the back, before the regular meats. I buy organic when I can afford it, and i love to buy from local farms.

                      Re: Organic

I eat mostly organic foods. If there is a organic variety, I will buy it. Of course grocery bills will be higher when you couple an organic lifestyle with Atkins, but it's worth it. In California, it is relatively easy to buy & find organic. I use a delivery service which makes things nice. The flavors, quality and absence of unnatural additives is so worth it.

I have noticed that organic versions of some foods have higher carbs. Bummer! So far I have found this to be true with spinach, cream cheese & milk....

Organic for me is absolutely about quality and thus it's more satisfying to eat organic foods!
