Anyone dealing with blood clots? For some reason the past couple weeks I think I have. Once I had chest pain, wrote it off as strenuous stuff since I had done a lot of stairs that day. But since then I have had many many bouts of little stinging burning pains in my veins, mostly in the back of my wrists, you know, the little veins that you can see there. They will get swollen and be stinging. My BF says that they are blood clots and I should go to the doc. I hate docs and needles and all of that so I haven't gone but I am getting so many of them this weekend. Even started happening a couple times in my legs. Plus the headaches afterwards are horrendous. They veins sting for a couple minutes then it seems to either go away or else move somewhere else in my hands and sting there for a little bit. I really don't want to go to the doc but maybe that is what I will have to do. Why would I be getting blood clots all of the sudden?? makes no sense to me. My BF says that it could be the "Diet" because of all the fat. But I have done this woe before and never had any problems. I am doing so good, down 17 pounds now and don't want to quit because of this. Any suggestions out there?

I don't know Rockin' hate to see you play around with something like that. When I was pregnant with my last child, I had one varicose vein that would burn and sting to high heaven unless I constantly keep moving my leg. Once I started taken iron tablets it quit completely. Just a suggestion on the iron if you are not already taking some but don't mess around with it if it keeps up more than a day or two. Hugs to you.

BUt it doesnt sound like Blood clots to me
          Carpel tunnal maybe
          inflamation of the veins
          maybe you need potassioum
Blood clots usually start in a area you hurt
or if you were sitting/laying down a long time
and it happens in the calf often. (DVT)

My hands get tingling when I have gluton or cream
          maybe its a allergy
BUt if you really think its a blood clot you need to go see your dr
My dr said i was very lucky to be alive

            Re: Blood Clots

Thanks everyone. Maybe ya'll are right and I should go to the doc just to check it out. If it keeps up tomorrow I will call the doc and get an appointment. The main reason I think it might be blood clots is cause my BF has been on blood thinners for blood clots since college (he is 42, and got injured and had to have the artery in his leg taken out). He knows what they feel like and being around me the past couple days he thinks what I am describing is clots. Just cant for the life of me figure out why I would have them, what could be causing them. though maybe someone could tell me if maybe the way I am eating now could be making them worse

I made an appointment and will be seeing my doc this afternoon to see what is going on with me. I feel terrible today, head is hurting really bad and the pain in my right leg is getting worse. Time to find out for sure what is going on.

                    Re: Blood Clots

Just got back home from the doc...they checked me out and did some tests. Said that they are clots in the surface veins and not in the deep veins so that is not as bad. I have one in the side of my leg, on the surface by the spider veins, and one in my left wrist that isn't moving. He said not to worry too much about them and if they keep bothering me and the tests don't show anything else then we can try aspirin therapy and see if that helps. They drew some blood and are running some tests. I have to go back on Thursday afternoon to get the results and do further tests. They are testing my thyroid also, have no idea why but they are. The doc does say that I am showing wonderful results from Atkins and that this probably isn't part of the problem, he said keep up the good work. He also said that I am now in the yellow on the BMI chart instead of the red like I was and wont be long till I am in the green.

Wow, I am so glad you went to the dr.
But why are you throwing clots?
You need to find out, when I had my clot they did all sorts of blood work and test to see why I had one at age 50
My other Dr said heavier people have more of a chance getting clots also/
He didnt put you on blood thinner? ANd why wasnt he more worried about the clots regardless where they are?
Thank you for telling us about what happen I was worried

I had a clot in my leg/calf as well. Wasn't DVT though, so there really was nothing to do for it. (Thank goodness it wasn't DVT) Man that sucker hurt! Glad you went to the doc!!

                          Re: Blood Clots

Yeah he said it most likely wasn't dvt and they were surface veins that were affected. He is doing to bloodwork to see if we can find out the reason that I am getting so many of them. I am going back in on Thursday for a recheck. It suprised me that he was so nonchalant (sp?) about the whole thing and not worried about the clots. But he did some tests, checked my oxygen levels, heart rate, felt all the major arteries and stuff like that, course then the bloodwork too. I laid down after posting last time as I am having a horrible headache this evening, commonplace lately.

I hope they can find out something soon cause between the headaches and the veins stinging I am not feeling very well. I think I am going to go ahead and head to bed again and see if I can sleep off this headache, tylenol isn't doing any good. I was happy that I can continue my woe and that he is not against me doing it.

                              Re: Blood Clots

I'm kind of surprised that they didn't send you for a Venous Doppler test. That's where they look into your major arteries in the legs with an ultrasound for blood clots (to make SURE there aren't any DVT). That's something that shouldn't ever be taken lightly. My father in law passed away a couple years ago from DVT.

If it were me, I'd take the aspirin myself just in case.
