  • Heavy Sweating on Induction

    HI,

I have just started on the Atkins Induction this week(5 days ago), and am a little concerned with my excess sweating and want to know if it is normal to do so. I used to sweat a little bit prior to doing this, but now even the smallest amount of excercise or even doing nothing at all will cause me to burst out in sweat which can last for a few minutes or longer and then subside. The sweat is not just under the arms but my entire body breaks out in sweat especially my face and back.
Can someone please let me know if this is a normal side effect of the Atkins way of eating or should I be more concerned.

I have to admit though that in 5 days I have lost 3Kg's and 2% body fat which is almost unbelievable.

    Thanks in Advance.

I also sweat more then usual on the atkins plan, I end up using alot of powder on my face throughout the day I get sweaty greesy face, and all over,
I have heard that the ketos (fat) is also released through your skin , I think thats why we have a tendency to sweat more then usual. I just wear extra deodorent and take more showers then I used to .

Thanks Lisa. I will keep an eye out and see if it get's any better during the next couple of phases. It's good to hear that someone else has similar symptoms even though I am sure neither of us like them I will have to buy bigger deodorant sticks....
If it gets better I will post back here and let others know that this may be a side effect, though I have not seen it reported elsewhere, but there is 2 of us.

Same thing happens to me. I went into a store last weekend and started looking around. When I stopped to browse, the sweat poured down my face from my hair. It was embarassing.

          Re: Heavy Sweating on Induction

Sweating is caused by a number of things, but the most common is excess body heat. Like if you have a fever, you'll sweat or if you are exercising you sweat because your body is trying to get rid of the excessive heat.

When we finally begin to burn our body fat, the process produces energy which produces heat. So it's quite possible your sweatiness is due to your fat burning. Soooooo.......

Make sure you use alot of baby powder and enjoy your fat burning.

Could the extra water we drink have anything to do with extra sweating?

Could the opressive heat have something to do with it? Plus the extra water drank, plus toxins being purged during induction plus ketones and salts? Sweat on... and keep on replacing the water & electrolytes.

                  Re: Heavy Sweating on Induction

I did not have a problem with excess sweating but it did seem like my deodreant stopped working. I tried every type of there and finally switched to a mens brand.

I am assuming it was atkins, not much else to blame.

Anyone else notice extra "scents" under the arms?

                    Re: Heavy Sweating on Induction

Artgirl, I've got other theories - bacteria from a new close friend can take up residence & replace the old strain under your arms, or they may simply become resistant over time to your product's active ingredients (much like they can to antibiotics). I keep two brands antiperspirant/deodorant with different ingredients & switch occasionally. Also disinfect underarms w/alcohol occasionally for extermination of the lot.

                      Re: Heavy Sweating on Induction

                      Great points, thank you.

I was using the same old deoderant brand for some time. I will also disinfect the area and see what happens. The new deoderant has helped, I thought just because it was a manly brand.

A couple of my other friends who workout a lot also noted using mens' brands because they have been smelly more than usual under the arms.

Well, part of the reason that I started Atkins in the first place was cos of heavy sweating.
I'm sick of sweating like a pig in the summer and like a piglet in the winter.
