Hmmm they have bottled water on that list!
I like how they mention these foods meet requirements for being less than 35% sugar, 30% calories from fat, 480mg or less of sodium, and no more than 2 servings per package. Like they think meeting those guidelines make these foods "healthy" choices.Female

WOW----look at those prices!!!!! I remember that 50 cents would buy you the meal for lunch when I was in junior high. 5 cents was the price of milk when I was in elementary school.~Megs~

As a part of my life change, I am evaluating my entire family's food intake. I refuse to cook multiple meals for dinner, so everyone is going to be making the switch to a healthier life style....because I love them!
My first project is my daughter's eating habits. I give her $1.85 (EEEK!) for an elementary lunch each day. I've joined her for lunch numerous times and monitored their menu. Basically, they serve the exact same thing every week...and it is pretty much high carb, high fat, and quite questionable in appearance. On the positive side, there are days when they offer a chef salad alternative and everyday they offer some type of vegetable and fruit choice. Of course, I scan the cafateria on those days and see about 2 salads in the sea of students.
Another positive thing our school district is doing is from a program called CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Children's Health). The school lunch menu has codes next to each item. (G= Go, S=Slow, and W=Whoa). Now, I assume they then teach the kids about the different codes, although I have never seen anything come home to tell me about this program.
All and all, I'd say our program is *trying*. There's still a LONG way to go though...Sincerely,
Christy
