Re: 17 y/o Male needs help
I don't know if it will help, but I have lost 5 inches off my waist just on 8 days of induction: no fruit/sugar/starch/grains (see 'Induction' thread) and tons of water.
Unfortunately, I think I'm correct in saying that you cannot get sculpted abs until the layer of fat on your abdomen is thin enough for the muscle to show through.
Your overall fitness must be great although it sounds mainly cardio?? cardio does burn some fat, but is mainly a way to get you fit and healthy through aerobic exercise. The way to really see your body change shape it through exercises that burn fat and tone, such as weights, pilates (yes, it's not just for women - a lot of men have been impressed with just how hard some of the exercises are), boxercise is a good one. And I think one of the guys on the exercise thread swears by his treadmill (on an 'Everest' challenge, mind you!), which kind of combines the two. A nice exercise for your sides (where the muscles rarely get used) is to get a dumbell hold it in your hand down by your side, put the other hand on your head and lean sideways down your leg as far as poss for 20 reps, repeat the other side for 3 repeats. Try not to lean forward or backward while doing this. It will really make your sides ache the first time you do this!! There are a load of great pilates stomach exercises as well which are killer!!
I am in NO way a professional trainer - this is what the pro's have told me when I have complained of the exact same thing as you - love handles and flabby belly.
Also, (and I hope I don't sound patronising) remember that you are stil growing upwards - and alot of people grow quickly out of their puppy fat in their 20's
(swines!)
I would have a look at the induction program as I think that will really kickstart your new downsized tummy!
Good luckFemale; 5'8''

Re: 17 y/o Male needs help
At 5'8" being a male who apparently is pretty fit, 165 is not really bad; if you build up the Abs and other muscles the muscle weight won't take up as much space on you belly as the flab, which you can lose on Atkins.~Susan

Re: 17 y/o Male needs help
Just a thought, we have a couple of (and many more, so check them all out!) exercise challenges, such as the abs challenge and the stability ball pushup challenges, that I believe would work wonders on your love handles too! Forgive me for not mentioning all the wonderful challenges, these are just the ones I'm most familiar with! The Stability Ball Pushup Challenge works the core muscles, and as a participant in that one, I can vouch for the fact that you will work MANY of the muscles around your middle just balancing on that ball!
