I've REALLY upset at the appearance of some very new, very red and really awful looking stretch marks on my lower abdominal area. It's not that I'm new to stretch marks, I just don't reacall them ever coming on this quick or being this horrible looking.
What do I do about these? Am I to expect more as I LOSE weight (something my boyfriend said will happen). Has anyone tried Strivectin SD or Clinique CX Stretch Mark cream? Do anything of these things work? Help! I'm horrified everytime I look at them!

    Hey there,

I have strech marks all over my body. Not a pretty site.

Pretty much with time, and a diet where you are losing weight they will fade in colour.

Some suggest using a vitamin E cream on them.

But really time heals the wounds. THey are wounds after all.

Mine have all but faded. I know the latest ones (over 9 months ago) are the pinkist.

But yes time, is the key, I'm afraid.

      Re: Stretch Marks

Good News! , I have done alot of research on stretch mark treatment,
and because they are still in the red phase you can treat them and possibly get rid of them entirely, there are alot of good stretch mark creams out there and you do not have to buy the real costly ones eather, now if you let them go and dont do anything about them once they turn white they are concidered scars and would have to be treated as such, mine are in the white stage and the only treatment I found that works is gycolic acid peels and scrubs,( they kill the top layer of your skin so your body can make new healthy skin). but because yours are still red you would not really need the skin peels , so just find yourself a good stretch mark cream and use it 2-3 times a day, a good cream will be one that has collagen and elastin and Emu oil is good too, skinstore.com has some good stretch mark treatments.

        Re: Stretch Marks

you can try dry brushing ....I talked about this a few times and think if you do a search it will come up ...
it is not a miracle but I had a 12 lb baby when I was very young and have a small body so let me tell you about stretch marks!!!!..

loosing weight and dry brushing has helped minimize the appearance of the the stretch marks as you can see in my pic

before a shower several times a week I take a soft dry natural brush and scrub from my fingers and toes to the center of my body in tiny circles with my skin completely dry (avoid all tender areas or you will be sorry)

then jump in a warm shower wash as usual but before you get out turn the shower to cold and just zap yourself all over with icey cold water...pat dry gently and then moisturize well with something you like....it may not fix the problem completely but it feels so freaking good when you start it is something you will continue forever I bet!!!

the first few times I tried this I itched all over but after that it did nothing but feel good and yeah look at my tummy and I am a grandmother!!!

I also attribute my stomach going away to a low carb diet ..it may not be a fact but this is the only way of eating I have ever been on where I lost this much fat on my stomach ..and my husband too he has no gut anymore after eating this way...

low fat never did it that is for sure ..we lost weight but kept our tummies .

I have always been one to go to the tanning bed. I've noticed that the darker I am the less you see my white marks. All of mine are over 12-14 years old, and i've been tanning for 9 years now... it has made a great difference. A drawback is melanomas popping up here and there... but if you're like me and have a destroyed body, a few little scars don't hurt much.

I've been thinking of that cream Mederma. Anyone ever try that for stretch marks? I know it's good for scars, and I was thinking since white marks are basically scars--it'd work???

I'm sorry to change the subject here, but please don't go to the tanning bed anymore. It's so bad for you. Melanoma is not a drawback, it's cancer!!!

I know tanning can temporarily make you feel and look fabulous. But, trust me, it won't in the long run.

Think of red stretch marks as scars in the developing stage. One of the best things I've found to minimize formation of scar tissue is to keep cocoa butter on them during wound healing. I've used it after several burns sucessfully.

I totally agree. Girl, cancer is WAY more of an issue than a few stretch marks. Please don't go tanning anymore. It destroys your skin, it makes you age SO fast. It may look great now but ten years down the road, you'll look fifty. Who wants that?

If you want a "tanned" look, why not get a sunless/spray tan? It's the same type of result but without the risk of skin cancer and harmful UVB rays. I know a lot of tanning salons now have "Mystik Tan", which is a spray-on method.... I've done it myself and it looks nice.

Melanoma isn't just a drawback - it's one of the deadliest cancers out there. I really hope you change your approach here.

Thanks Kittie, I was beginning to feel invisible! When I first read that post, it stopped me DEAD in my tracks. I wondered if I was the only one that felt that way.

It really is important to stress the fact that tanning beds are more than harmful. They're deadly!!

I use maderma and it does help to minimize the appearance..but you have to use it faithfully for at least 6 weeks to really notice the difference and its kind of expensive.

                            Re: Stretch Marks

The trick for getting rid of stretch marks is to do something about them while their new. I used to have them on my arms I got them from bulking up for football season and slimming down for baseball season. I noticed them right away and asked my coach about them he told me to drink alot of water and to use Fish Oil and vitamin E cream. My stretch marks are almost completely gone they are only a shade lighter than my skin practicaly invisable to the naked eye. When stretch marks begin they actually have a pinkish color so if yours are red or purple they are in the scaring stage I would use scar cream.
