Is it true that consumption or over-consumption of alcohol can cause fat retention or weight gain in the belly area? Can you really get a "beer gut"? What is the truth about this - anyone know?

Re: Alcohol and Bellyfat
From what I've read, beer contains maltose which is sugar. When ingested, the maltose causes an insulin increase which in turn leads to fat storage in the abdomen. Thus causing a "beer belly."
I have a few low-carb beers on the weekend as a treat for being good all week, lol!6' Tall (HW 218

Me too.
"the maltose causes an insulin increase which in turn leads to fat storage in the abdomen."
Why the abdomen specifically? Why wouldn't it go elsewhere as it may tend to do with other carbs and sugars?27 F 5' 7"
