  • Does it bother you when.....

Does it bother you when the kids get in your face after they've eaten something you would normally used to have eaten and miss? My little girl is a fruit/cheese/cracker lover! She's just gotten done eating a bowl full of grapes, 1/2 plum left from dessert @ lunch, cheese and crackers. I just had a decaf tea w/splenda and an oz of cheese. I'm not hungry, really I'm not, but she's only 2 and loves to use me as a jungle gym, climbing all over me, pops her little face into mine and says Hi, love ya! Always kissing, etc. I love and miss my fruit and ohhhh! I would love to have a few bites, but I'm resisting! I'm just wondering if other moms have this problem? What do you do? LOL, what kind of snacks do you feed your kids? I don't think she eats unhealthy at all (my 7 yr old is another story though!) For breakfast she had 1/2 banana, dry cheerios and a cup of milk ( we were on the road to an appt), then we went to the Dr for DS's rash and after the Drs office they wanted hash browns so I got them ea one, for lunch she had 1/2 chicken breast, green beans (2 servings-maybe 1/3 c ea), 1 celery stick, 1/2 plum, snack as above. She really does eat good for a petite little toddler but when I look at what she eats its a LOT of carbs!!! LOL, no wonder why I'm tempted!

I try to balance my kids as best I can.

I allow them 2 slices (no crust, that's obvious for a 5yo and 2yo LOL) of whole grain bread a day. They can have it as toast for breaky, or a sandwich at lunch.

I try to get them to eat whole wheat english muffins more often than toast.

Sydney (2yo) cannot eat oats, but she can eat cheerios, so she gets the 3 berry cheerios with 2% if not toast.

Hannah (5yo) eats the Oatmeal crisp 3 berry too.

They ONLY get natural peanut butter, and actually turn their noses up at Gramma's Kraft smooth PB (too greasy and sweet they say)

Hannah gets Smuckers SF jam, and Syd gets the blueberry. (Syd can't eat strawberries either

They get only real cheese, no processed foods...... other than I allow them 1 Halloween size choc bar/day.

They love cream cheese with splenda and a bit of jam for dessert. They love hard boiled eggs and tuna salad. They love to make turkey rolls with mayo and a slice of red pepper, and will do the same with ham.

I have not made potatos or pasta or rice for 2 months now, and they sure don't miss it. They enjoy their salads with every meal.

I found some Oreo type cookies at Zellers with ZERO trans fats (voortman's), or else they get those field berry newtons.

They get 2 fruits a day of their choice, and love to snack on baby carrots with or without dip

I do allow McD's once a month, but no soda, they get apple juice (I ask them if they want a treat as soda and they always say no) and I take off the top part of the bun. They rarely finish their fries.

I hope that this stuff sinks in for them, I am so afraid of them going down the same carb laden path that I did.

It has not bothered me yet.... My son has a pretty healthy diet overll so his carb foods are pretty minimal.
Typically he has yogurt or cherrios and milk for breakfast
Lunch and dinner he eats what I do with an occasional side of mashed potatos, homestyle fries or bread
Snacks he enjoys peaches, bannannas, apples with peanut butter on them, fig newtons, graham crackers, goldfish, an occasional pudding or jello.
The one thing doing Atkins has brought into perspective is the problem we have realizing when we are full and not overeating. He gets a smaller plate with reasonable size servings for him. He must finish the veggie of my choice before he gets seconds. If he is still hungry and wants more than we give it to him. If he doesn't ask we don't offer.
He used to be chubby. He is still a little big for his age/height, but looks much more proportionate. Was asked yesterday if he was doing Atkins with me. I said no it wasn't designed for children. Did say we are encouraging him to eat until satisfied and not overeat.
We do the all natural peanut butter too. Trying to keep as many transfats out of the house as possible.
restart 16-18/8-12 (crazy sizing)/love to get into some 6's

        I miss fruit!

I really miss fruit. It is an very rare splurg for me. Even the baby's apple sauce tempts me in my moments of weakness. Never mind my husbands watermelon and apples he keeps around as his "healthy" snack. Healthy is in quotes because he salts them both. I know I can have them on occasions, but when I get right down to it Id rather reach my goals than eat the orange or chocolate, whatever it is tempting me. I'm not going to be heavy forever! I want to be a good role model for my daughter and son. I want to show them how to live an active, healthy life style.

I'm confused. Fruit is on the carb ladder and I'm on that rung. Are most people not eating fruit? Is it unusual to do the fruit and berry rungs?
