  • Health Insurance need help!

Hello guys Im Aaliyah Miller, from Minnesota, I just turned 20 last April and my health insurance has been cancelled, I got a physical to check things out before then and my alt and ast liver enzyms were up so I got a ultrasound of my liver, nothing found.. got another blood test a couple days later and they were normal, then I turned 20 and my insurance cancelled..
But recently, I have been having this pain in my upper middle back down through my right side, it hurts when I stretch out and it hurts when I take deep breaths, the pain on a scale of 1-10 is about an 8 when I take deep breaths and about a 7 when I stretch the wrong way. I have some trouble swallowing too.. I am concern because if something happens to me my life is not insured.
I have been surfing the net for good health insurance, i came into [link removed] has anyone tried online insurance? how effective is the online quote system? can i depend my money on these?

    thanks in advance.

Hi, you don't say if you are a student or not, if you are you can check into that student insurance through your school. I sympathize with you since I have had a son go through the no insurance thing, I found the cheapest rate was with bluecross (of Louisiana) of course but I am almost positive they have bluecross of Minnesota (my sister and her family just moved from St. Cloud this year). Good luck on finding something. Oh, just to give you a ballpark figure, my son pays 135. a month for himself which I found was the best deal out there at the time.

aaliyah, you might want to check out some better business sites for whatever company you might go with. see how they are rated. there are bad sites all over the place. cheap doens't always mean good. if your dealing with something you find on the www. i would check it out with the bbb first.

If you can't find good insurance right away, you shouldn't let your back problem go. Many Hospitals offer low cost clinics (With real doctors). MY Doctor volunteers one morning a week at our local hospital. Some hospitals that are teaching Hospitals use their residents who are overseen by the doctor. My Endocrinologist who is from the Mayo Clinic does Clinic time at one of the hospitals I work at. When you get insurance that is not group insurance, they usually have a preexisting condition clause in it. They will not cover that condition usually for one year. Hope it helps, One of the ladies I work with got Blue Cross of Pa For her daughter cheap, but it has high deductables and co pays.........Dawn

              Re: Health Insurance need help!

I do medical billing at my work. If you want my opinion, Bluecross/ Blueshield is one of the better health insurance companies because they cover more services. BlueCross is one of the few companies that will pay a percentage of the bill if you are hospitalized outside of the US.

My advice to you is to carefully read the plan before you sign up. Some plans will not cover routine physical exams, but will only cover "sick" visits. That is, let's say you want a yearly check up for things like women's health (pap smear, etc.), blood pressure screening, etc. Some insurance companies will not pay for that visit and you will be forced to pay out of pocket.

Likewise, some plans will only cover you for a certain number of visits per year and some will not allow you to go out of plan for doctors.

Also be aware of the plans that will have you pay a percentage of the bill at the time of your office visit. I can't tell you the number of people who have walked out of this office because they were unaware that they had to pay 15-20% of the office visit.

So read those plans carefully. Ask your friends and neighbors what kind of plans they have and if they are satisfied with it.
