Shingles!!!

I got this little sore spot on the back of my theigh where it meets my butt and it turned into a little custer of tiny white blisters. Googled it and sure enough its shingles! Read that you can get it if you have ever had chickenpox cause it lives in the nerves and can be brought to life by weakening of the immune system. Could loosing 20 lbs do that? Is it atkins? Luckily its very small and only mildly sore (sore when i sit on the toilet to pee, lol) but nothing like some of the things I have read like ppl not even being able to wear clothes.

call your doc cause they have some med you can take that will greatly reduce your shigles down time.

no Atkins doesn't cause it any more then high carb eating does. it is a virus that has been in your neve for a long time and something triggered ti to go active if they ever figure out the triggerring mechanism thery can wipe it out so nobody ever has it again.

get to the doctor now. like 2big said there are meds. no it's not atkins. my mom is getting over shingles right now. she got them bad enough that she couldn't even wear her worn out bras.

i won't sugar coat this, you are in for some miserable days and for a long healing time. get to the doctor.

ummm, I hope you have seen a Doc. It may not seem bad now, but shingles can go from ok--- to devastating FAST. I have experienced them, and they spread like wild fire, and can be very painful. I have never had them resolve without meds.

You diagnosed yourself from google? WebMD says it could also be a form of herpes outbreak or just a bacterial infection, among other things. Shingles is not just gotten by people who have had chickenpox. Shingles wouldn't be just "mildly sore", it hurts, it itches, it's painful to touch *anything*. Perhaps I was just lucky where it was this painful, but my Dr. said it was pretty normal what I was going through. The most important things I could ever tell anybody would be - PLEASE do not try to diagnose or medicate yourself, well, unless you *are* a doctor...

Acyclovir - I think. An anti-viral you may have seen advertised for genital Herpes. Shingles/Chicken pox is a herpes virus. It can last a while. Get to the doc today!!!! The sooner you start the drugs, the faster the stuff goes away! It is painful stuff but it isn't deadly and you haven't done anything wrong! I had shingles once that were thought to be genital herpes until I had residual pain in the skin of my left buttock and the back of my left thigh..... Then, when I was pregnant, I got tested for herpes just to be safe. I've never been exposed. It was shingles. Luckily, treatment for both is the same!

if i'm not mistaken, mother did go to the doctor and it was not shingles. i think i have that right. i suggested she make a post here so we would all know but as things go, we all have places to go and things to post!

Hi! Went to the Dr and they said the results would be in in a few days. That was over a week ago. Meanwhile it has cleared up, just dry and flaky now. Still waiting on the results but obviously not shingles thank the Lord.
