  • Gas Trouble

Ever since I started the veggie rung, I've had two or three incidents of uncomfortable gas. At first I didn't know what the heck was going on, as I had never experienced it before. The gas is internal and uncomfy. Is this what the product Gas X is for? Does anyone have any other natural remedies. My dh just says try to burp and fart.

What kind of veggies have you added?

I didn't add anything new, but I'm eating more broccoli, salad, and cauliflower. Those are the usual suspects. Sometimes green beans.

I think brocolli and cauliflower can cause it, if you are adding an extra 5g's of carbs in cauliflower or brocolli i would think that would be quite a bit on top of what you were already having?

Maybe you can try adding something you aren't currently having and cutting back on those 2.

If you've been adding 5g carbs of lettuce, that's a sure fire way to give yourself gas! The only help I can suggest is eat some high fiber bulk to push the gas on through (like your DH said...) - don't hold it in, LOL

If you are going to try to treat the gas with something until your body gets use to it, either use Beano, or if you just want to rid yourself of the gas go with a tums, at least you will get the calcium part of it also. I am not familiar with Gas X so don't know if you get calcium with that one.

broccoli is notorious for causing gas...gas is just undisgested sugars, am I correct?

I'd say, just let 'em rip, and blame the dog.

Are you eating anything else, particularly anything with sugar alcohols?

                    Re: Gas Trouble

Desertthorn, I can't think of anything I eat that has sugar alcohols. No frankenfoods at all!! I've sworn them off. I sometimes use regular ranch dressing on salads, but I don't think the sugars are S.A.'s.

I did buy some summer squash and zuchini today, so I can have more of a variety. I am a creature of habit, so it's very easy for me to eat the same things. That and I hate to cook. Check out my journal stats, I eat bacon and eggs for breakfast 99.9% of the time.

When the gas first starts, I can't burp or fart, it is just a lot of discomfort in my belly and chest. After a couple of hours, I can start to release it the old fashioned way. Oh, and it has only been in the morning? So could it possibly be my bacon and eggs?

I will grab a bottle of Beano so I have something on hand.

"Blame it on the dog," that's funny! My dog is a priss, if she does fart, she get's up and moves away!

once upon a time, and i don't know why we quit usning this, we bought what was called papaya enzyme. it aids digestion and actually had a good taste. it worked very well. i've tried to search it to see if there are carbs in it and can't seem to find that info. but you can find this product at the drug stores, the super stores, anywhere you find supplements. cutting back on the broccoli i would think help greatly but i posted this just for infornation.

do not use BEANO!!! that will take your undigested carbs in your broccoli and cauliflower and make then digestable counting carbs!

what is happening is the bacteria that live in your intestines and make Vit K and aid in digestion are having lunch on your undigestible carbs. they produce gas as a by product. your body will get used to it in the mean time try to lower the total amount of those vegies and replace then with others from the list.

Okay, so no to the Beano. It's comforting to know that my body will get used to it!

Gas-X should help. It breaks up large "bubbles" of gas into many tiny bubbles...making it easier to "pass" through your system. Worth a try...my hubby is a gas monster and he uses it. (he's still a fart monster though, he drinks too much milk )
