Yes Kent, the bizarre thing is that my urate leve is lower also, which is strange. Doc seems to think that my "gout" may actually be arthritis from over use!

Re: Blood results back from the doctors

Got my blood work results today. Doc said "you are normal in every way".

Total cholesterol 5.7 (apparently the average for women in the UK is 5.6, under 5.2 is perfect)
        HDL 1.33 (1 is perfect)
LDL 3.95 (under 4 is perfect)
Triglycerides 0.91 (under 2.3 is good)

So, I am happy with that.

I could not help but notice that on all website giving information on cholesterol and triglycerides, everyone is told categorically to avoid fatty foods. Hmmm....

            Total Cholesterol 4.9 4.9 Less than 5

            Total Cholesterol / HDL 4.9 3.1 Less than 4

TGS (whatever that means) 1.9 0.96 Less than 1.5

Hopefully that means something to you all (I mean the hdl and tgs stuff). I am thinking that we may have different terms in the UK.

But all is very good. Excellent ammunition for me to fight the "atkins doubters" with.
Everything looks fine but I am confused about your HDL. HDL is the "good cholesterol" .Hasn't your doctor highlighted the drop in your good cholesterol? Seeing as how your total cholesterol has remained the same, that would mean that your LDL has now risen? LDL is obviously the cholesterol we don't want to have increase. Perhaps I am missing something?

Re: Blood results back from the doctors

what we might be missing here, gaz, is that the ldl isn't listed at all.
i am guessing that the ldl also went down to acceptable levels but without seeing it there, it's only a guess.

and now, 2big, will post after me and tell us the real scoop on things!

y'all are miss reading Rich's post and skipping my already detailed one about his numbers in post 5

the only number you don't have is your LDL. your HDL is now 150 % of your 2 yrs ago number which is a great improvement. the value is 1.58 now and was 1 when you started.
your LDL should be using the formula TC = HDL + LDL+ 1/5 Triglyverides 3.52 on 04 and 3.12 now which is a nice improvement too.
here are the values from a UK GP site

how did your doc feel you were doing?
his second set is is the ratio of the total cholesterol to the HDL and the only way to get that number to drop is to increase the good or really drop the Total but we know he didn't do that from line 1.
