I try not to. I have in the past, but i really think I'm going to stop. Do you? Why/why not?

I've found the years that I didn't just as likely to get it the years i did, so why put more crap into my body.

    Re: Flu Shot

I was able to get it for free when I was in college...and it worked within my schedule. I stopped getting it after college because I always got sick anyway (don't know if it was "technically" the flu that the shot was supposed to prevent...) so figured "what's the use?" Kind of like your thoughts, samantha...I'll get sick anyway, what's the use of getting poked in the arm?

      Re: Flu Shot

I took it 2 years in a row, offered free at my last workplace. In the 30-some years before that, I only had the flu a handful of times, only once a bad case lasting more than 4 days. One of the years I got the shot, I ALSO got a mild flu. Since stopping I've only caught it once. I think I'll pass on it, or maybe try flu-mist if a bad flu starts going around nearby, but since there's such a massive get-your-shot campaign in MD this year, incl. mist for kids, what are the odds of catching flu here anyway?

Now, if F5N1 starts going human to human (or pandemic flu) and there's a proven vaccine, that's another story!

Anyone seen any Tamiflu available OTC?

I work in a medical clinic. So I get one every year because I'm in the 'high risk' group (eventhough I don't do patient care---go figure!)

                  Re: Flu Shot

I was in the "had to" group while in the army. Being a medic, I've pretty much gotten every shot, from flu shots to anthrax, smallpox, hepatitis a and b, japanese encephalitis, you name it. I'm actually not allowed to give blood forever because of all the whatnots floating through my body.

I am a very healthy person and rarely get sick ..however...all it took me was getting REAL influenza one time and I realized why the mass epidemics killed so many people ...I take a flu shot every single freaking year ...and will as long as I live I NEVER EVER want to get that sick again ..I wanted to die!! it was so horrible ...one solid month I did not feel my self ..I lost time from work, from my family ..spread it to my family .....high fever ..brutal painful coughing ...could not eat or drink ..I had to have my coworkers give me IV fluids just to make it through because I was to weak to move...horrible ...it went on and on...it is an option but one I will take to protect not only myself but those I come in contact with....

This is a quote from an article in Time magazine.............

Shadowed by peril as we are, you would think we'd get pretty good at distinguishing the risks likeliest to do us in from the ones that are statistical long shots. But you would be wrong. We agonize over avian flu, which to date has killed precisely no one in the U.S., but have to be cajoled into getting vaccinated for the common flu, which contributes to the deaths of 36,000 Americans each year.

                              whole article....http://www.time.com/time/magazine/ar...562978,00.html

I just had my first one last year, had no problems with it, so will be going back for another this year.
