  • kidneys and lo carb..

has anyone else had back pain when they have increased their protein? i had real bad back pain, and my doctor said it was from all the protein in the atkins diet, that i didnt eat meat/protein hardly at all before, and all the meat now is working my kidneys hard...i refuse to stop the diet, and it has subsided...i was just curious if anyone else has been told this or experienced this...personally, i think i need a new doctor....

I've never had back pain from protein...and really, 30% protein is a healthy amount, nothing dangerous about that. I HAVE had back pain when I had UTIs/too much caffiene and not enough water.

I can't give a really scientific answer, but I know that Atkins is NOT a high-protein diet, and as long as you're eating 30% that's a healthy intake. However, if you weren't consuming much before, it might take some getting used to. I know that too much protein at once can cause constipation (because of the iron). Your multivitamin is iron-free, yes?

i am drinking loads of water.....and i am on a proper multivitamin...i also dont go near caffeine..personally, i think all our bodies react different, and my body is just getting adjusted to all the new things i am doing....i am okay with it, and a little pain is okay to get sorted on it all...the doctor said i wouldnt loose weight because i have cushings, and i cant help but think that maybe since he is eating crow, he is trying to feel better..doctors are human too i suppose...

The only other thing I can suggest is making sure your ratios are right. Feeling pain isn't normal.
