  • Fracture with out a lot of swelling?

I think this is the right place for this....

On Sunday evening I was putting away the kids metal floor trays, they fell off the shelf and landed on my foot. It bruised right away, it hurt but I didn't think much of it. It has been aching the last few days but this morning when I woke up it hurt to walk on it. Now the pain is horrible and it hurts just to move my foot. I called my doctor and the nurse said that it sounded like it was fractured since the pain is getting worse. It hasn't swelled at all since Sunday. I have an appt for first thing tomorrow, if it gets worse I was told to head to the ER.

So, after all of that babbling - has anyone had a fractured bone with out swelling?

    Ouch!

No, I can't say that I've ever experienced anything like that. I hope it gets to feeling better soon!

You have no swelling at all? It could just be bruised..but it would be a good idea to have it extra.. I hit my toe yesterday and its black and blue...Wouldn't surprise me if its broken... Those darn feet...always in the way

Well, I'm a baby - I couldn't take the pain anymore and went to the ER. They took x-rays and nothing looked broken, I bruised the tendons in the top of my foot. I'm on crutches and supposed to stay off my foot, elevate and ice it (like that's going to happen with a 5yo and 2yo!) - if its not better in about a week, call my doctor. The ER doc said sometimes there are hairline fractures that they may have missed. It is just a bit swollen, on the top of my foot.

Off to eat my turkey dogs and have some Vicodin...

Re: Fracture with out a lot of swelling?

Yes (no swelling) last month I was in my toddler sons room and his heavy ceramic piggy bank fell of the shelf that I was moving stuff on and it landed on my big toe from above my head. (quite a distance) I instantly blurted out %&$*#& and laid on the floor in agony. It turned purple at the nail and would hurt sooo bad if I even looked at it. I didn't go have it checked. I knew something was wrong with it though because everyday it would get stiff and if I moved it there was like a *pop* and agony. My son accidently dropped a plastic hammer on it a couple weeks ago and it felt like the piggy bank all over again and it was just a plastic hammer. But it seems to be fine now.

I'm dr. phobic. Had a horrific pregnancy with bedrest/hospital stays and tons of dr visits a WEEK so I hate going now. Luckily it healed, I guess.

(((Karen))) you are not a baby...that usually hurts worse then a break.. If it doesn't get better I would see a doctor that does feet or bones...

Hi honey. You are definitely NOT a baby. Soft tissue damage can hurt like *&^*&^!!! You take it easy okay. Perhaps family or a friend could help out with the kids a bit to give you some time to pop your foot up. Ice really does work. I messed up my back 5 weeks ago (soft tissue damage) rescuing my cat. Physio said it's going to take up to 12 weeks to heal - and ice is the only thing that really makes a difference. Be kind to yourself and your poor lil foot. Lotsa luv to you.

Re: Fracture with out a lot of swelling?

This brings back an embarassing memory. My youngest DD was about 4 or 5 years old. She jumped off the stairs at home and landed with her toes curled under. It hurt and she had a small blue spot and a tiny bit of swelling, but I didn't think it was anything serious. She limped around for awhile and I felt like she might be faking a little. After about 10 days, she was still limping so I finally took her to the doc. After an x-ray, we found that she actually had a little greenstick fracture, but by that time, it was healing and there was no need for a cast. She's never let me forgot that!

My DD23 had a minor car accident recently in which she hurt her little finger. It wasn't broken, but she had a crush injury that damaged the soft tissue. She's been in physical therapy for a couple of months and will continue for another two or three. Her doctor said that kind of injury can be worse than a break, so I feel for you. Get better soon!

Re: Fracture with out a lot of swelling?

I ended up going to see a podiatrist yesterday afternoon, I was worried that it would get worse over the weekend and didn't want to end up back at the ER. I have a brace on my foot for the next 3 weeks so that my foot can hopefully heal. I will go back and see that doc mid July.

Completely miserable today, the pain is horrible. Can't take the Vicodin, home alone with the kiddos and it really knocks me out.
