    Re: Hair loss

This is my third time doing Atkins seriously.

In the previous two times, after a loss of between 20 and 30 lbs, I started losing my hair. My doctor said it was just my body's response to the dramatic and quick weight loss, and not to worry.

It seemed like just bunches were falling out - like Meena, I had to clear the drain several times in the shower, and the brush got clogged. However, I wasn't going bald or anything.

It stopped after about a month, and that was that.
    Start date: 7/29/2007

    Scale: SW:235 CW:193
    GW:150

Tape Measure: I've lost 42.5 inches as of 3/15/2008

    Mini goals:
    215 - met 9/10/07
    205 - met 10/17/07
    195 - met 2/20/08
    180

    I survived a two-month stall!

        Re: Hair loss

For the past 8 months I was on a raw vegan diet and my hair started falling out in clumps too - but it didn't feel thinner. I was worried it was lack of protien but I think it is my body reacting to the changes it was going thru due to the weight loss. It was so bad - I mean you would find gobs of it around my desk at work, on the floors at home, all over my car. I started induction Monday (yesterday) and I noticed less shedding - who knows?

          Re: Hair loss

About 5 months (approx.) into my first time doing Atkins I experienced hair loss as well. It was a significant loss, too. I didn't have bald spots, but my normally thick hair was probably down to about 1/4 of it's original "fullness". I took Nioxin supplements (used the products briefly too) and my hair began to grow back in. It was back to normal rather quickly from what I remember. I didn't stay on the supplements long, either. I think I used them for two months.

            Hiya
I am a hairdresser ( putting on hairdresser Hat) What you are experiencing is a conditoin called Telogen Effluvium. When you body goes through something stressful ( like a radical change in dietary habits ) the body can go into a type of shock. This can show up through the "loss of hair " all of a sudden about three months after the change of diet. basically the hair stops growing all of a sudden, then the new hair that starts to grow to replace it pushes the old hair out of the follicle and it is shed. This can be a bit worrying to see all this hair shed all of a sudden but this is a temporary thing and most people find it settles down very quickly . So dont worry about it ... in no time it will be all good again!
