ive been doing atkins for 3wks now and this morning i woke up with really bad back pain its in my lower back and side i feel hot and sick, my daughter who is a nurse said its a kidney infection and caused by my diet any body else have or had this

Have you been drinking all of your water? Atkins does NOT cause kidney problems, as long as you did not have a pre-existing condition. That is why it is important to get checked out medically, as Dr. A suggests in the book, before you start.

I have had kidney stones before, and my doctor was well aware of this before I started this WOE. In fact, it was his idea to do Atkins. But, I have regular physicals and blood work done, so I was cleared to do Atkins before I started.

Time for you to see your doc.

i drink lots of water, i only have one kidney that works thats why my daughter thinks its caused by my diet but im going to increase the water and see how i feel monday when the doctors opens

Like Mitzi said, definitely drink your water and see your doctor! Have you read Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution? (aka DANDR) That book is your guide to being sucessful on this WOE.

I don't know why you only have one kidney that works (none of our business either), but you should definitely ask your physician about any diet program before you start. This applies to all folks, even those with two working kidneys and seem perfectly healthy.

i was born with only one functioning kidney the other is shriveld not sure why i will see my doc if no beter by monday and im having lots of water so hopefully it will pass
