  • Poor Memory

    Hello everybody!

I have been on atkins for a while but now that I have the energy to do things I notice now that I have a VERY poor memory!! I try to remember things and I'm not sure if its related to the ADHD I had as a child but I canno't remember anything to save my life!

Is there any kind of suppliment I can take to maybe help with this shortness of memory? I'm only 23!!! haha.

I basically take one a day vitamins now while on atkins but thats it..

    Thank you

    ~Robert Rittenhouse

    Re: Poor Memory

I think maybe it might be fuzzy thinking. Like, for example my husband who never has done this in the nine years married. Did a "I forgot what I was saying". Now, Hubby is on his first experience with Atkins Dieting. I am not sure why it happens. I think he let his sugar get a bit low.... do you do better when you have a couple more carbs (legal ones like cucumbers)?

          Re: Poor Memory

I didnt really have time to post but this issue is so similar to mine that I just had to.

This was a pretty serious issue for me pre-atkins. I was having serious short term memory problems. Not just "What did I come in this room for?" but forgetting meetings I had for the day and missing them, forgetting to do things, My husband had learned I couldnt be trusted to remember to do things so he always called from work to remind me.

I left myself notes, but Id forget to read them!!!!!!

I sware it got so bad it moved on past short term memory and was downright scary.

I would see ppl I knew (just aquaintances that I had only known a few months) out in town and wouldnt know who they were, yeah they'd look familiar but I couldnt tell if I actually knew them or if they just had "one of those faces" that looks like someone I know.

Sometimes i would even drive right by my own house instead of turning in not realizing it till I got to the end of the street. This might be more, dazing off. Not sure if this is my childhood ADD chiming back in either or not but I went to the Dr about it (back before it got too bad a few yrs ago) and she actually blamed it on the high carb diet.

She prescribed south beach. I chose atkins instead as south beach didnt curb my cravings like atkins so I couldnt stick to it.

I am only 1 and 1/2 months into atkins for my 2nd time and have already noticed a difference. I think there is something else underlying and cant blame it totally on carbs but that definately made whatever it was worse. CArbs definately cause "foggy" or "fuzzy" thinking my dr said. I believe it!

I am still going to get checked out ( I keep putting the dr apt off) but I have noticed a huge improvement.

            Re: Poor Memory

Hi R, don't know if this will help you or not, but I found that a supplement called Huperazine A, a chinese herb, helps me a lot. My memory got bad once perimenopause started. I use Nature's Plus brand; I found another brand didn't help. My mother and sister-in-law also find it helps them. It's about 12 USD/30 pills. The pills are very small and easy to swallow. It apparently works by preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine. Don't ask me what that means though!

              Re: Poor Memory

AnnieX-i never heard of that kind of chinese herbs but i think i will try cause my memory is very bad too.

and im only 22 :P i don't think there's anything to do with atkins. i just got bad memory. don't know why.

so i write everything down. note down what i need to do next. when i go to college i write down everything. even things that are not necessary to note down. just incase i might forget that in any minute.
It just keep going down and up, down and up *SLAP* wake up!!!

Omega 3 Fish oils would be a good supplement to take for brain power.
If you're on the nut Rung, walnuts are an excellent choice for improving your memory.
