  • Skin problems.

Seeking some help in dermatology field.

Ok, the thing is - I have naturally very sensitive skin and I can't remember last time when I didn't have problems with it, could have been when I was 12. My face skin, let's put acne away a bit, many my age people suffer from it. I used to treat acne with different kind of creams, natural ways, marigold extracts etc. - all together they've spoiled my face a lot and now I have to deal with scars and other conditions. Still, I manage to hide it all with powders and make-up. What really bothers me is my body skin. I used to take very hot showers, they made my skin very dry and when it was like that - it itched, made me very nervous, I sweat and it just made me burst in tears. To avoid this, I put on loads of creams to make it less dry, but (now I know) they had perfume/substances in them that made me itch only more. Now I've been dry brushing for quite a long and using only baby oils and Body Shop products for my skin. It makes it feel softer and nicer, I take only cool showers and use Dove shower gels so that I know they are for sensitive skin. However, today I took a rather hot shower and it made me experience this again. All my skin itches and feels like burning, and I don't know what to do. Dermatologists haven't really found out why it is like this, just told me I have such skin type. What's even worse and what I cannot explain are the red dots on my body. They used to be all over backsides of my arms (that's the reason why I avoid wearing short sleeves, although I'd love to). It isn't RED red, but just such dots all over, like small bumps or pimples. I don't think this is keratosis pilaris, because redness isn't SO big, but still very uncomfortable. Now I've noticed for quite some time that I have such small red dots over all my body, mostly my chest area. They are often between breasts and under/above them. I haven't seen such to other people. I am rather pale, but that's not the case, because I've seen PALE people and they have a very beautiful and soft skin. These tiny dots are on my lower arms too, on belly, back. Also all over my legs (another reason besides overweight why not to wear skirt). Even with smooth shaved legs those dots are everywhere. Perhaps it's simply natural colour of my skin? I believe it shouldn't be like this. I'm not a big sunlight fan, because I often get sunburns and sun overall makes me very dizzy, stressful and nervous. I used to go to solarium for some time, thought maybe it would cure my skin tone a bit, but now after 2 months of not going - my skin looks same. Very pale and red dotted. It's really very annoying and lots of stress that I have to say no to lots of clothes and other life enjoyments just because of my skin. Could this be some skin disease? Perhaps it has psychological roots? Why is my skin so sensitive to everything? Another thing I've noticed is that - mostly I notice all this when summer comes, all that sweating makes it only worse. I'd love to have a nice, healthy skin, but it seems so far away and it really drives me to tears. Does anybody else have similar problems or any ideas what causes this all? Perhaps if I'd drink 4 liter of water daily it would help? This is very depressing. I know I deal with lots of stress and worry about my looks more than average human does, but how can I NOT TO?

    Re: Skin problems.

Hello there! The skin issue on your arms is probably Keratosis Pilaris. I have it too and unfortunately there's no cure for it. However, there are treatments. It reminds me of red goosebumps. Mine isn't red, but I have a cousin who has red goosebump patches all over his skin. There isn't just one type of KP, but there are at least 8...with all different looks/symptoms to them. So while mine may not be red, someone else's might be.

      Re: Skin problems.

I'm wondering if this is caused by an allergy to something, not even necessarily a skin product, but even a food or environmental aggrevator.

Have you considered having allergy tests done? I'm wondering if these dots could be eczema related, or hives, a rash or a combination?

I have exzema that only showed up when i was in my 30's..it's only on my hands but seems to be aggrevated by certain dish soaps. i also can't use antibacterial bodywashes or my body breaks out in hives.

You may want to consider trying another dermatologist as well? Maybe a second opinion would help...

        Re: Skin problems.

Thank you for answering, I've almost made an appointment to see if this is allergic. And yes, I'm ashamed, but I haven't been on Atkins for LONG. Off and on, and I must admit - I've been eating TONS of different carbs lately, sugar, coffee, tea, burgers, lots of modified meat, bread, synthetic drinks etc. This could be another cause. That's the reason why I'm so desperate to stick back to Atkins, so that I can get all toxins out of my organism. What's also interesting (or tragic) is that last night I used Dove "Silk Glow" shower gel and now my skin is all red, burning and looks as if I had sandpaper going over it. I know that my skin has itched before just like now & this was exactly the same Silk Glow. Strange, because my previous creamy Dove gel was really great and didn't cause something like this. Also I did a bit of research in the Internet about Dove's "Silk Glow" ingredients, and it includes: sodium laureth sulfate; bentonite; glycerin and many more. None of them are healthy for skin. Although, these are beauty products - they NEVER were healthy, so I don't bother much about what goes into my organism as far as it doesn't cause something like this. We know very well what we deal with when use something that isn't natural. Though shower gels aren't the only products where I found SLES listed, guess no makeup is without it. It's known for its irritation to skin. I will quit using some beauty products to see if this itchy redness goes away. And then I will go to doctor to check those pimples on my chest, arms etc. Another doctor told me that the reason of all this could be stress and nervous problems/breakdowns. All my regular worries, fear and anxiety makes my skin break. Also I have hormonal imbalance. I've been told to use some relaxing pills, valerium, teas and natural tranquilizers, but I wouldn't say they've given me any good or helped improving my health. Oh well, I don't know what to do.

I actually need to go for tests for allergies to find out why I'm breaking out around my nose. I've been going through this terrible rash cycle since February (before Atkins) and it's driving me crazy. I understand your frustration. What I find so odd about this is that my skin has never been prone to breakouts and then in February all heck broke loose. I have no idea what's causing it.
