    Just wondering what to do...

In 2 weeks I need to be given a general anaesthetic to have my wisdom teeth out in hospital.

There are a few potential hiccups with my weight-loss as far as I can forsee:

    1. I have been asked to stop my multi-vitamins a week before the op because the effect of some of the vitamins (E & C for instance) are known blood thinners, and so they like to minimise the chance of prolonged bleeding - for obvious reasons!!

    2. I have to fast from 7am...my op is at 1pm. They said definately NO bacon and eggs for breakfast - tea and toast!! I was thinking maybe an Atkins bar and a scrambled egg? Have to keep it light on the stomach b/c they dont want any food in the gut when you're unconscious. What about the eat something every 6 hours rule?!

    3. Even at 2pm when i am back in recovery... I have been told that eating will be the last thing on my mind for a day at least...so how will that effect my ketosis etc? (Not to mention that my teeth will NOT want to be eating anything that they have to chew or bite on!)

My story is that this is my second time at Atkins - I lost 13 kgs about 6 years ago - but have since been pregnant and now have a 3 yr old daughter - and kept on 12 extra kilos!

Today is the start of Week 5 for me - and I'm 3.6 kilos down (thats about 8 pounds).

I feel good because ppl keep telling me its obvious I've lost weight!

Any thoughts or advice anyone has would be appreciated - surely others have had similar predicaments?!

    Re: Atkins & Hospital

My advice is listen to your doctors. Do what they say. If they say no eggs, then no eggs. You're having surgery, you don't want to mess with that. Being put under always has risks. Do you want to up those risks because you're afraid of being stalled for a while? An Atkins bar would be to heavy in my opinion. Drink that cup of tea and have a piece of low-carb bread.

I doubt fasting is going to harm your progress anyway. As a Catholic I fast all the time and it doesn't hinder any weightloss.

It makes me nervous hearing you thinking about not following the doctors guidelines when you're going into surgery and being put under. It's a very serious process and you don't want to mess with it, listen to your doctors they know what they're talking about.

ABSOLUTELY listen to what the doctor tells you. i just recently had a radical hysterectomy after being diagnosed with cervial cancer. i've gone through 31 radiation treatmenst.

      1. i had to stop all vitamins pror to surgery for the reasons you state. the doctors don't want you on any kind of blood thinners unless they direct you otherwise. [due to other medical problems]

      2. a fast means exactly that... a fast. you're having surgery, the dr.s have told you what you need to do to prepare. screw the 6 hour rule. a fast is a fast. there are reasons you are not to be eating anything.

      3. you shouldn't worry about ketosis or anything else except healing your body.

my best advise is do what the dr.s tell you EXACTLY. there will be time to eat back on plan after you heal.
