  • No more T.O.M.????

I've been doing Atkins for 6 weeks now, and have lost a little over 20 pounds. My TOM should have come shortly after I started Atkins, but it didn't . . . and it still has not come - for about 9 weeks now. I'm getting a little concerned. Is this normal on Atkins?

Yes, this can happen. Why? If I remember right it has to do with the hormones that are stored in your fat. Once you start burning the fat the hormones get released and can cause your . to get a little whacky.

It will regulate itself, at least it did with me. I DO remember when I had this last time I did a pregnancy test just to make sure though.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Congrats on your loss so far!!

20 lbs in 6 weeks is a lot! If someone loses weight rapidly, her estrogen levels might decrease so much that she stops ovulating. Unless you eat below 1200-1300 calories or keep your fat intake very low, missing a period is not a big cause of concern and your body should adjust. However, missing 3 periods in a row is a sign of amenorrhea (with consequences such as increased risk of osteoporosis for example), and if this happens you should see a doctor.

You might also miss a period if you exercise a lot. Is this the case?

I have heard of this occurring to other women when starting Atkins, but like Georgiana suggested, you should see a doctor just to confirm everything is ok.

For me, starting Atkins had the opposite effect. Prior to Atkins, I hardly had a menstrual cycle, but after losing some weight, I had my first non-medicated cycle in a long time. I'm still not regular by any means, but at least I have a couple of cycles a year instead of one cycle every couple of years.

        Congrats on losing 20 pounds!

I don't think I can be pregnant. I have been exercising a lot compared to my pre-Atkins couch potato-self.

I made a dr. appointment - it is in about a month from now, and by that point it will be about 3 missed cycles.

would high estrogen levels effect your weight loss?
i mentioned in previous threads that i stopped losing weight after the first week of atkins. but im still on the diet because i feel healthier, more energetic, never bloated anymore...etc. im just not losing, and lately i'vew been gaining instead. im concernd!!

I lost 20 pounds in the first 2 weeks. 50 pounds in 4 months. Is this bad? I will start another post to ask.
