  • Sodium levels

Hello guys. Before I started atkins, I had my blood report done. I've had high cholesterol on my blood report which is expected I guess and I had high sodium. I lost almost 20 pounds on atkins which is great and I have to go back on november for my appointment to re-do it. I want to know. Can atkins help my sodium level? What can I do to reduce it? Any supplements? Anything to do? Or should I wait for my next blood report since I've lost weight. I'm worried.

PS: All my other reports are very normal. Normal blood pressure and everything.

    Re: Sodium levels

Lots of processed food, like frozen dinners, etc. have a lot of salt in them. Since the Atkins diet focuses on eating unprocessed foods, maybe it alone will help. (Though I'm just guessing - I'm certainly no medical expert.) However, if I were in your shoes and really concerned about high sodium, I'd probably also try to cut down on eating salt and try not to buy products that list sodium as an ingredient.

Hope that November report turns out well!!! (But if sodium is still up, maybe ask your doctor what he suggests.)

      Re: Sodium levels

Miriam gave you some great advice....focusing on non-processed foods instead of processed ones will greatly help you reduce the amount of sodium you consume. It is amazing to me how much sodium manufacturers put into their the products.

      Best of luck to you!
