    HDL 56
    LDL 98
    CHOL/HDLC Ratio 3.3

Now here's the best part. My HbA1c was 5.8! This is my personal record low, down from a scary 9.25.

Now why in the heck would I try a low-fat, carbohydrate loaded diet with all the sugar I can tolerate, as suggested by my doctor?
You wouldn't!!! The tests don't lie!

I think it is going to take a good long time despite lots of recent studies that prove low carb eating is healthy before the doctors of this world get with the program and admit it.

Do what works for you! Obviously thats low carb! Way to go!

Re: What do you make of my doctor's comments?

I agree with everyone about finding another doctor. 2 doctors ago for me recommended the SALT diet...that was a disaster. Last doctor sent me to a nutritionist who salt down and put me on a 12 carb (15 gm of carb equal 1 carb to count) a day diet -- within a couple months I was sick and gaining weight. She thought I was doing well and would "turn the gain into a loss anytime". I came home and just ate whatever I wanted.

Found Atkins by happenstance or maybe I was actually looking for it - I honestly don't know....like aquarys said make him realize this is a woe for YOU!!! I'm type 2 also (my A1C was 10. and I feel better today than I did last week -- my blood sugar numbers are between 94 and 102 for the past 2 days --- 12/29 I was 175 in the am and 125 in the pm -- I'm not yo-yoing anymore, that tells me this is a good thing! Can't wait to get my next A1C next month.

If I ate a low fat diet and all the sugar I could tolerate, my blood sugars would be through the roof, and I'd gain double the 30 pounds, or more, I've lost! What's a girl to do?

i know this is a few months later than your original post - but what was going through my mind as i read this?...TRUST YOURSELF!!!!!! that's what anyone in your position should do. you said it yourself - "when i'm on plan, my blood sugars are great! plus, I lost 30 pounds in a little over 2 months" - i mean THAT right there says "hey - this works - they don't know WHAT they're talking about!"

my mom's doc actually told her once, "the food you eat doesn't cause diabetes"...i've been on her to change docs forever (she still hasn't though...)

but really - you KNOW what works. just like everyone else said - to anyone out there who's doc doesn't believe them - get a second opinion...docs are a dime a dozen - just find the one who works for you!
