I'm wondering how many of those who are paid to lose weight will maintain. Not many, I believe. It's sad when one needs to be paid to do something for one's health...

Re: It pays to lose weight

My work pays me to lose weight. It's a quarterly weigh-in and I earn money for each % of weight lost. I didn't lose weight for the money but $150 every quarter sure buys a cute pair of shoes or a new exercise toy. I get at least $150 each quarter as long as I maintain my weight and weigh in. If I lose more I earn more.
So far I've bought with my winnings: free weights for working out during lunch at work, heart rate monitor, workout clothes, water weights, and hiking boots and poles.

They could be like me though. I initially started losing weight for money (well, and the competitive aspect of a biggest loser style weght loss conest). Once I started and felt so good I didn't stop. Hopefully that will be the case with them as well.
