    Re: gastric bypass

thanks for the tip..i stuck to that today for the most part, but the stores are getting wise to that...so the bakery section is right on the wall and area after the fruits and veggies...and next to the seafood... plus i cant have fruit during induction..plus i had to go up the centre isles to get certain things like tomato paste and other stuff to make low carb bbq sauce...i must have walked up that chip isle 6 times....and then, i figured...bonus..the temptation made me get extra exercise in!!! lol

            Re: gastric bypass

Tracy, here is my two cents worth.

I would always rather try everything before subjecting myself to a major surgery and all the risks involved.

I know you say you know you have to eat healthy after the surgery, but the bypass makes people think that sticking to a healthy diet will be easy and it isn't any easier than doing Atkins or WW or any other healthy way of eating. What makes it easier to lose is that you feel so ill and sick if you do overeat that you try harder not to do so. And if that's the case, then why not really commit to eat healthy and lose without cutting yourself open.

If you truly commit to Atkins and know that your life depends on getting to a healthy weight, which it does really, then you will lose. But you have to decide to do the work, go by the book, and make this your number one priority for awhile--ahead of your mom's feelings if you turn down her best dessert; ahead of plans out with friends at a place with no good choices; ahead of any pie or fries or pasta that comes along and calls your name. You have to believe you are important enough to make this work and stick to it. I guarantee that if you give this 6 months with NO CHEATS and going by the book, you will be amazed at how much better you feel and look.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

                Re: gastric bypass

How about an opinion from someone who has been there?

8 years ago I had GBS, and I have no regrets! At the time, I weighed 320 pounds, and had tried everything to lose weight. All of it with success! But I always gained it back, and then some. After GBS, I lost 160 pounds, and kept it off for several years. In the past two years, it has started to creep (gallop??) back on. But this is the first time EVER that I have not gained it ALL back.

I am now on Atkins, and doing well. I am determined to lose what I have gained, and I know that I will. This is a constant, life long battle. I lapsed for a while, and now I am paying the price!

For those that think that GBS is the easy way out--you have no idea! It is not easy in any way. For those of you that think that GBS is deadly--yes, there are rare instances. But being morbidly obese is also deadly. To those of you that think that one does not learn a different way of eating after GBS, I beg to differ!!

I think that GBS is an effective, realisitic solution to SOME peoples' weight problems. It is NOT for everyone. It is not a decision to be made lightly.
I certainly would not recommend it just because it is free!

Thanks for listening to another perspective......

                  Re: gastric bypass

Tracy, I have two friends who have had weight loss surgery. One had the Lap Band and one had Gastric Bypass. Both did really well for the first year.

My friend with the gastric bypass has lots of problems. If she ate things that were too fatty she'd get sick, if she ate too much she'd get sick, and she was constantly frustrated with how little she could eat (type, not quantity) because of that. After not seeing her for a year I went up to visit her recently and saw she had easily gained back about 40 pounds. Not sure how, when you can only eat about a cup of food, but apparently you can.

My friend who did the Lap Band surgery did really great and lost lots of weight, but is constantly having digestive problems. She had similar issues eating the right foods and getting sick but more so it was the problem of finding the right saline levels for her band (you have to go back to have the solution squirted into the band or removed from it throughout your life) and then she got pregnant. She lost the first baby due to malnutrition and it almost killed her (emotionally). The second time she got pregnant she had to be at the doctors' constantly to be monitored. It was a painful and exhausting process.

At the end of the day they both felt that the surgeries were good and bad. They are now thinner, but the extra problems that the surgeries caused are hardly worth it. I wonder now if they had done Atkins (without the constant cheating and flubbing the foods) if they would have lost that weight and been happier that way.

                    Re: gastric bypass

DO NOT GET gastric bypass surgery it is an abomination it will harm your body

you can get all the effects of weight loss and health and more by following atkins and exerciseing

please cancel your gastric bypass surgery it is an abomination there is no use for it in any way. all it will do is HARM your body and make you sick

your body will not store fat while eating very low carb Atkins so you will reach your goal

carbohydrates are what make people more hungery and eat lots so on atkins its like haveing a safe natural gastric bypass already done only its safe and natural and wont permanently harm you

people die all the time from gastric bypass sugery it is a complete abomination it is not useful in anyway
