Re: Pomegranate juice
Heavens no I dont want to quick Atkins...but if I have to drink a glass a day juice.. and if its not sugar free, then with regards to this WOE, I am defeated after I drink that glass...I already drink tons of water....the juice has to be pure, no other juices mixed in...I can almost kill my husband for making me go to the doctors in the first place..

Why are you defeated?
And ... don't put the cart before the horse here ... you don't know that you can't get sugar free.
And ... you can ask your doctor for a different suggestion.
And if you're any medications:

Re: Pomegranate juice
Juice really isn't allowed as there is no fiber and hence pure carbs, and pomegranate juice has to be the most expensive juice ever. I bought some last week, 5.00 a bottle and that was cheap...Cranberry juice is about the same for kidneys so if you can't afford the pomegranate, you can switch. Also 2big said once that the pill form has the same effect as the juice.
If my doctor told me that, I would move up to OWL fruit and drink the juice, but I would be more inclinded to eat it fresh if they are still around.
One other thing, I don't like the taste, but my DH thinks its the best.

Re: Pomegranate juice
I suggest trying for more water ... you should aim for about 1/2 your current body weight in ounces of water.
More water will help your kidneys, too!
Glad to be of help.
And believe me ... I understand "panic"!J.

Re: Pomegranate juice
I would strongly suggest getting a second opinion from another urologist. If you don't mind sharing, I am very curious as to why your doctor is recommending pom juice for kidneys. This juice contains oxalic acid which is not the best choice for anyone prone to kidney stones. If it is to get the benefits of the polyphenols and vitamin C in POM juice, that can be obtained from veggies.Originally posted by Browneyedmelly View PostMy doctor yesterday went over some blood test results.. and he is telling me that he wants me to drink some pomegranate juice on a daily basis for my kidneys..

Re: Pomegranate juice
Heya Mizski... I had a blood test taken cause its been over 4 years.. and he was going over my test results.. and as I told Atkinsgal.. I cannot remember the name of the test..but he asked me if I ever had kidney infections or if it was part of my family history.. I told him no and he said he would check again on it 3 months..and in the mean time I should drink the pom juice...but my mind was freaking out over the fact I have to see a doctor about my thyroid.. that I can't remember the name of the test.. my only concern was drinking too much sugar.. I still have a long way to go on this journel of mine..anyway so..

Re: Pomegranate juice
There is a study going on giving folks who are on kidney dialysis pomegranate juice and the finding it very beneficial. Of course the study is preliminary.
I would certainly ask the doc about the supplements for juice is nearly pure carbs. An 8 oz glass of pure pomegranate juice is 38 carbs, 36 of which are sugar and this is without sugar added. Cranberry is about the same.
I would be interested to know what he said.
