    Re: Severe Constipation

Your cramping could be from the gaseous effects of the broccoli and cucumbers more then not having a bowel movement

try adding back some live culture yogurt as your rung 2 addition. between the more fat and the healthy bacteria your gut should feel better if it is from not going.

In order to go you need wasteproduct in your foods and on atkins waste product can be fiber or too much fat to be absorbed by your intestines with the amount of bile you produce. Since you added 5 net more grams of veggies on rung 1 how about trying some of the more fiberous ones like jicama. the rung 3 nuts and seeds should give you more waste product to move.

      Re: Severe Constipation

I have found that my body requires me to have veggies with every meal or I get painfully constipated also. I have something with eggs in the morning, usually tomato, peppers, onions or maybe mushrooms. Lunch is almost always a big salad or big bowl of soup. Dinner is also a mixed green salad for a starter and usually a veggie with a meat. I am on rung 5, but I have been doing this since rung 1 because of the constipation issue. Hope that helps a little...

what the rungs mean to me:

      rung 5 - wine -
      rung 6 - beans, hummus
      rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)

        Re: Severe Constipation

have you tried letting your body handle its constipation with out the use of drugs?

if you keep takeing drugs maybe the muscles will not grow strong and then you will need drugs in order to not get constipated

the intestines and such are a muscle too try your best to make them grow stronger and too much fiber is bad because it will end up flushing nutrients out and if that happens your body won't beable to grow stronger

Dietary Fiber Theory. Scientific Proof Fiber in the Diet is Unhealthy.

        hope these links help

also know if your used to eating lots of fiber then all of a sudden stop you may get worse constipation for abit as your body adapts

          Re: Severe Constipation

I tried laxatives once and they barely worked at all. This was after weeks of dealing with this already. I'm currently searching for alternatives, because if I have to go to the doctor I will surely be placed on meds and that is my absolute last resort, as my body doesn't take to kindly to chemicals.

          Thanks for the research!
