  • 11 days on induction!! Good results on BP!

I am 70 years old and on a diuretic for high blood pressure.
I started the induction diet 6 days ago and lost 6 lbs.(145 to 139).
My reason to go on was to lower blood pressure, and cholesterol which was about 120 total.
My mineral supplement has 1000 Mg. of calcium.
Is calcium bad to take in my situation?? Should I limit the calcium intake??
mY BP has gone down significantly at times, (112/76 on arising today!).
But went up to 148/86 when I moved around a bit.
    Appreciate any input folks!
    I walk 3 miles about 3 to 4 times a week.
Thanks and have a great day! Pete

    Results of 11 days Induction!

OK, no replies on my question about Calcium!!
But an update, after 11 days on induction diet, my blood pressure is down considerably, in fact to the point I am cutting my diuretic pill in half at this point and closely monitoring things there.
Lost 5 lbs, from 145 to 140 at this time.
    good luck ya all' Pete

Hey Pete. I've had good BP readings since Atkins. I have also been taking Taurine which Dr A recomends for high BP.

        Hi Colin!
First of all, Conratulations on your weight loss!! Fantastic!!
        Also on your blood pressure.
I am having great success with my blood pressure also.
In May my BP was running into 150's+ so my Dr was going to put me on 2 meds a day. The meds are:Lisinopril 10mg., and HCTZ 12.5 mg tablets.
(I don't think that is a very strong dose?). At any rate. I went home and went on Dr.A's diet. After about 10 days or so my BP was dropping gradually, into 130's and now is mostly in 120's , with some readings as low as 113! I cut my tablets in half and am still taking a half tablet to be safe until I see the Dr. in July.(Unless my BP drops too low!).
Anyone doing this should surely keep a close check on their BP!
I record my readings several times daily and will show the DR the results when I go.
AS far as weight, I was a mere 145 when I started, not interested in losing a lot really, but dropped 7 lbs now.
I wish you continued success Colin, God Speed!.
        Pete
p.s. will add Taurine to regimen soon, thanks for that info.
