  • Lovastatin

    Hey All,

Going on my 8th week (extended induction) and remain in ketosis. 33 lbs lost so far.

A year ago I was put on Lovastatin because my hdl/ldl "ratio" was too high.

I stopped taking it when I started induction, afraid it might hinder weight loss or something (I also eliminated Motrin and Flexeril and feel great).

I asked my Doctor about it and he's absolutely against me being on the Atkins Diet ("It's a bunch of bull. You can't eat like that forever."), so he's not a very helpful resource.

Does anyone know if Lovastatin interferes with weight loss during the Atkins WOE?

    Thanks!

Just curious what your ratios were? And your individual numbers?

I don't know about that particular drug, but I would definitely suggest you find a supportive doctor who encourages Atkins.

Also, check into using Flush-Free Niacin for your cholesterol along with Fish Oil and odorless garlic.

Those three helped my cholesterol alot .. taking my HDL from 91 to 106 and my LDL from 177 to 119.

I eat a ton of eggs and other saturated fats and my ratio is now 1.12!!

      Re: Lovastatin

statins do not effect Atkins metabolism. when you are in OWL you can eat natural statins like soy when you get to the legumes run.

On Atkins you should see your HDL go up and your Triglycerides drop and the reulting increase in HDL should help lower your LDLs unless you are one of those folk genetically programed to be high LDL.

since you are 8 weeks in if you have been doing the eating and exercise parts of your atkins your cholesterol should be coming down. since you are 8 weeks off your statins you could have a rebound jump in your LDL though so be ready for a higher LDL number then your statin KDK number.
