  • Some blood test results

I have a general hold on what's what and so on with blood tests, but i like sharing and always enjoy input.

So anyway, I had about 6 vials of blood drawn a few weeks ago to run all the usual tests. Lipid profile, iron, cbc, etc and so on. Most of the results were fine. I'm not anemic, never was. Triglycerides- 186, slightly elevated. Cholesterol- 209, slightly elevated. HDL was 56- fine to my understanding. LDL was fine, I don't remember the number. My glucose was 75- normal. My chloride level was a little high, the only reason I can think of is my oral contraceptive, bec. estrogen can cause elevated levels.

So I'm thinking this is because I've been on the wol for only just under 3 months and my body hasn't leveled off yet?

I guess my concerns are that I can't let it continue to elevate because i alreay take a med that side affects the way my liver metabolizes and lipid meds do also, so I can't combine. I'm trying to be very proactive.

Anyone have the same thing happen with their tests when they were in their initial months?

okay I need some clarifications from you before anybody can even begin. Are those slightly elevated numbers slightly elevated from your before Atkins numbers or slightly elevated for the lab standards?

If you didn't have a before Atkins numbers to compare those could be great numbers like if your before Atkins triglycerides were 600 then 186 is a huge improvement. In the absence of carbohydrates the body will burn triglycerides for fuel those lowering the blood triglycerides level is the basis for Atkins WOE helping cholesterol.
your ratio heart doc worry about is the total over the HDL and between 3-5 is good. you are 3.73 which is excellent.
The major source of chloride in folk is from their diet and specifically table salt so if your doc wants you down there just lower the amount. if you are using a salt sub and it is potassium chloride that too can be a source of too much chloride in the body. very few foods have high amounts of chloride in them and it is water soluble.

You're awesome, 2b4ms. I was reading so much on it that it's getting mushed up now.

I can dig for a blood test that will be pre-healthy life. Ever since being diagnosed with Narcolepsy, my docs have taken a liking to vacutainers, lol. I'm sure I have a test from a ew months ago. The chloride thing is odd, I actually don't add much salt to my food. When I do it's a little sea salt.

did your doc check your med that effects your liver metabolism too? some meds like SSRIs use the same liver pathways ketosis does and the amount can alter when you do Atkins.

Thanks for looking but your doc should have told you if it was slightly up from last time or just lab standards. I hope he was very happy with your ratio!

            Re: Some blood test results

I believe one of the tests was liver function. Honeslty I was spaced form the fast and wasn't paying attention. The reason I got all that done was because this was my first visit with the VA hospital. i just submitted my packet for disability and was assigned a primary capre provider so she wanted to start the whole workup on me for when I get the third degree form the review board about the narcolepsy. They'll go off my army records but will also want to see VA stuff, so in reality this was her first time seeing me from the inside.

                This is true

I used to gross other medics out with my "looking at the inside" metaphor. I call us people mechanics, lol. I'm looking for an old one. I found a few cbc's and bmp's but no lipid profile. I'm sure I have one.
