  • Anyone else with lupus/other autoimmune disease?

I've only been on Atkins since mid-November. I'm wondering if anyone finds that Atkins helps (or worsens) their symptoms of autoimmune disease.

Personally, I generally feel better. I still have a lot of joint pain, but I think drinking enormous quantities of water is helping with that. At my last rheum visit before I started Atkins, my labs looked like I was starting to go into a flare. I'm tired, but have more energy than I did before, flare or no flare.

    Anyone else?

I have hasimoto's an autoimmune thyroid disease and haven't has any worsening of my conditions due to the autoimmune part since I started.

Many find they get flamation type disorder relief. Some docs have speculated it is from getting our Omegas back in balance as the higher Omega number EFA are linked to inflamatory chems in our bodies.

I have fibromyalgia and have found that this change of diet (WOE) has helped alot, especially with the related symptoms such as IBS.

Losing weight too has helped of course, but I do have more energy, less flares, less pain.

I have Crohn's disease. There have been studies that show a link between autoimmune diseaes and gluten - the protein found in wheat, oat, rye and barley. I have had some blood work done that showed many foods that trigger an immune response for me thru www.betterhealthusa.com. Since eliminating those foods that I react to plus going on Atkin's, my Crohn's has gone from an active flare to quiescent. Here's hoping!

I have fibromyalgia, and have found this diet actually helps with my symptoms. My heartburn went away, my ibs, was gone as well. To tests this theory I went on induction for 1 week then ate 1 cup of spagetti...I kid you not the IBS was back within 10 min of eating that yucky food. My joint pain is much better, energy up, and I don't have that bloated feeling all the time anymore. The only drawback I have found is going to the bathroom all the time due to increased water intake. Small price to pay.[/b]

Re: Anyone else with lupus/other autoimmune disease?

I have Crohn's Disease that has essentially been in remission for about 3 and a half years. Even so, I have felt MUCH better since starting Atkins. My stomach VERY rarely hurts anymore!

I have hashimoto's thyroiditis as well. Haven't noticed that Atkins makes a specific difference, but I feel so much better generally!
