  • Cholesterol Meds

Well here I am starting Atkins after a two year vacation of stuffing my face. I felt great when I was on it and lost 25 lbs. I decided to go back on it again but this time. I am taking Lipitor to lower my Cholesterol which was off the chart. Can I still loose and take this medicine. Any help is always appreciated.

    Re: Cholesterol Meds

Usually when doing Atkins peoples' cholesterol numbers improve greatly without medication. After at least six weeks on the diet you could check to see if there's been an improvement.
I think you can follow this WOE while on cholesterol medications, but maybe someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks so much for the advice, but do you think I could just stop taking my meds?

I think the best thing to do there is actually contact the doctor about it. Another thought is maybe slowly coming off of it, my mother takes lipacor but because of the leg cramps that she gets taking it the doctor told her to take it everyother day, maybe you could do that.

I agree... better to check with your doc before taking yourself off meds. You might need to do it gradually.

Hi Skinnymuffin! My doctor has me on Lipitor too. It didn't effect my weight loss of over 100 lbs. Although my cholesterol came down considerably. My doctor feels as though it's not quite in the healthy range that he would prefer. He explained to me how genetics play a factor in your cholesterol. Some people eliminate the problem after losing weight and sticking to a healthy life style. Some people have to take statins all there life. I had Type-2 diabetes and high blood pressure which went away after changing my life style and losing weight. But I'll be darned if i can't get my ldl down where I want it. It's just something I have to watch closely.
