  • BP med /water pill ?

Hello. I have High BP. I take 1pill of Benazepril HCL 20mg -. The Dr. i had before also had me on a water pill but this current Dr. took me off it and said i didnt need a diretic. Back then i did swell up so she gave me a water pill to take as needed only-dont have it anymore.
? If i'm taking a HBP med do i need to be on a water pill too? I have an appt on Sat. I had beeling feeling better on LC but lately my work has been stressful and my BP has been high. I've also been feeling anxcious and moody. I have had sinus pressure and i know pain rasises BP. Any suggestion or tips for my appt. Sometimes my Dr. has the oh whatever attitdue about some compliaints. She has been wating to up my meds. I changed jobs so i told her to give my new job a chance since its less stressful. Lately i have had to cover in my old job and thats where the stress comes from, so no BP is up and i'm feeling horrible again-just like ol times.

Doing LC how can i get off meds?

Re: BP med /water pill ?

Hello, I am 20 years old. I never had any blood pressure problem. But recently got my blood pressure taken at my sister's house with an at home blood pressure monitor. It shows that my blood pressure is 136/94. I am quite worried for this. Will it go down soon? Do I need to go to the doctor to get it checked out immediately? Please suggest me. Thank you.

Dreaming... sorry for the late reply; not sure how I managed to miss your thread .
I'm no expert, so can't offer you much help except to follow your doctors' advice and, if you're not happy with your doc's attitude, then change to someone you feel happier with.
I do know that losing weight helps with high blood pressure, consequently is a good way to get off, or reduce meds.

Rumki... BP levels can go up and down quite a lot depending on stress and other factors, so you should test at different times so as to get a clearer picture... particularly as you've never had a bp prob. If you are concerned then I'd certainly go have it checked by your doctor. I'm sure he/she will reassure you. As I said to Dreamin, weight loss helps high BP levels, so Atkins is a good thing to do.

Hope someone with more knowledge than I have will be able to reply here.

Re: BP med /water pill ?

When I GO to the doctor to have my blood pressure checked every six months (She is a Nurce Practioner-Alice Marie Slaven-Edmond) this is the run down of what happened on February 18, 2010......

A nurce called me in for my vitals:
          Temp: 97.8
          Oxygen: 97
BP: 139/78...this was up from the last 6 months when it was 118/76.
Weight: 127.5 with all clothes shoes, coat etc.

          NOW TO THE NURCE PRACTIONEER:
Alice: Good morning susan, how can I help you this afternoon?

Susan: This should be quick....I need new perscriptions for my high blood pressure.

Alice: (Pulls my left leg up on her lap and raises the pantleg and lowers the sock. She presses her thumb hard on the side of my shin bone and says: Susan do this test (as she releases her thum) and watch to see if there is any indention that stays there for a while. If it sounds like a squish when you press and takes a while to come out or stays in, get back here immeadiatly-it might be a sign of congestive-heart failure.)

**Now alice checks the neck arteries through the stethicope and says if they are blocked a whilstle sound can be heard that would warrant further tests. (She found no sound.) then she listened to my lungs they sounded fine..

Susan: I Plan to drop 10 lbs in the next six months and keep it off.

Alice: Cut the salt! No coffee or sodas of any kind! That's a great goal...Walk 30 min 3 times a week. Ok, I will keep your BP med the same but I want to double your water pill..this will lower it and keep check on your blood pressure and if it goes up then you can take another of the lisinopril-it certainly won't hurt you...it will just mean you would have to come in earlier than 6 months to refill your perscriptions. Is there anything else?

Susan: NOPE. Thank you for your time.

**I may add that she isn't an advocant to atkins(I mentioned going on it) and she gave me a book on counting Carbs....(OH MY!) the book says I need at least 144 carbs (NOT!)

            >>If i'm taking a HBP med do i need to be on a water pill too?>>

            That's up to your doctor.

            >> Doing LC how can i get off meds?>>

            That's your doctor's decision.

However ... it you stay with low carb, your blood pressure should come down. Then you have to STICK with low carb ... and convince your doctor that you can STICK with your new way of eating. Then you have to STICK with it.

Maybe then ... he/she will take you off or reduce your meds.
