Hi! I too would be interested in more info on Taurine. I've been reading what I can just from doing a search but still feel inconclusive. Are there any studies showing direct results of Taurine on high blood pressure? My blood pressure is way bad to say the least but I can't stand the side affects of the meds. Tried about 4 different kinds and now I'm trying some natural blend. It seems an endless concern and I am soooo sick of it.
Thanks!
Kathy
p.s. Desertthorn, How much Taurine do you take?

Wondering what your Doc said about this? And how much to take? I'm seeing the pills in 50mg--with other stuff and 500mg form.Originally posted by MarvinAtkins recommends Taurine for Hypertenstion in DANDR. I have some, but wanted to wait to talk to my Doc before I do, since I'm already on two meds for hypertension.
Have you read the information I just found on Oliqopeptide?

I used to listen to Dr. Atkins' radio show 10 years ago or so and he often spoke of taurine for blood pressure.
MJDon't worry, be happy!

Taurine is a natural diuretic, which is why it can help with blood pressure problems. Dr Atkins recommended it in his Vita Nutrient Solution book becuase he didn't care for the effect chemically based diuretics had on the kidneys
If I recall correctly, it is hard to take "too much" but unless you enjoy spending 24/7 in the bathroom(and buying stock in "Charmin" lol), 500mg once or twice a day, usually no later than mid afternoon, should be ok.
Taurine is found in small amounts naturally in:
Eggs
Fish
Meat
Milk
It's recommended that you not take Taurine if you're allergic to eggs as it may cause the same reaction.

Re: Taurine for BP
I had read in DANDR that Dr. A recommends patients on BP meds use a medication without a diurectic and instead take L-taurine for it's "diurectic properties." I asked my doctor about this yesterday, and he said this is untrue. L-taurine will not help with BP. Since I'm taking a BP med with a diurectic, I had my potassium level checked, and it was OK.On modified low-carb plan
