Long story.....Haven't seen a doc in years, went after the dentist took my bp and it was 177/106. Was put on mild bp meds, had been on before, but was able to go off. Doc ordered complete blood work, with glucose, cholesterol and such. Now I had all these tests prescribed before, but because I had to go to a lab for it, I crumbled up the paper and never went. Well, new doc they take your blood while your sitting there, so no getting out of it, lol. History, when I was 125 pounds, uhmmm 15 years ago, my cholesterol was over 200, but doc said it was okay cause my good cholesterol was okay, and I excercised and such, but have a severe family history of heart disease on my mom's side. Mom is fine, but her parents and siblings aren't all doing so well, both grandparents died before 60 of cardiovascular disease, uncle who didn't smoke, was a semi pro ball player had to have triple bypass at 40 and is totally disabled by cardiovascular disease now. Dad's side of the family, no cardiovascular disease, tend to live old (grandma is 9
but dad was a smoker and died at 57 from lung cancer. Okay so here's me, turned 40 last week, lately smoke like a chimney and am an on and off again Atkineer and feel like **** most days. I really know if I keep on the current path I will die before I'm 60, but a part of me keeps saying it's too late to make that much differnce. My biggest dilema right now is that my new doc has this automated system where your can call and get your test results via voicemail 24/7, but I'm afraid to call. My results were supposed to be ready Friday, this is almost Wednesday and I can't bring myself to call. I tend to have anxiety attacks and I think that having my results will just make things worse as far as how I feel. I truely feel like a heart attack waiting to happen. So what have I been doing about all this? Sitting here smoking cigs and drinking beer to relieve my anxiety. I know, not a cure but........................................ I need advice, reassurance, and hugs from anyone who has fealt like I do tonight.

Never mind...... I wrote my feelings out and posted it and suddenly got the guts to call and get my results. They are as follows:
Doc said overoall things are okay.
Total Cholesterol 217 wants it under 200
HDL ( I think) 48 wants it 40-60
LDL (I think) 142 wants it under 100
Glucose 112 wants it 70-100 (they will watch that they said)
I'm really relieved, but still don't feel so good most days. I have severe refulx which my insurance is fighting paying for Nexium, and my chest aches, but I'm also a 44DD who breastfeeds a 2 year old who pulls me in all differnt directions, so perhaps it's just chest wall muscle ache or reflux, who knows. Any thoughts appreciated.

Lynsey, I am so glad that you called. Soooo now what are we going to do about the smoking and on again off again Atkins.
Do you remember that Oprah show where she had the 300+ dieters on and how they lost their weight. I will never forget, one lady said that she decided to lose weight, and she didn't try to do everything at once. She decided to change her habits one at a time and the first thing she did was join a gym and start to exercise. She didn't low carb, she didn't count calories, she just started to exercise.
If doing it ALL is to much for you, start at something, and Exercise is really a good place cause it lowers your blood pressure and your cholesterol.
But even if its making an effort to drink your water every day, or if its Induction or smoking, pick one and work on it and then when that becomes a habit, pick another and work on it.
:hug :hug :hug :hug :hug
(You know Im really talking to myself don't you. )
We can do this!!!

Did you know Dr Atkins was a cardiologist and he said that eating his plan helps reverse the damage to the blood vessels soooooooooooooooo you are not tooo old to fix. Now the eating will help with the reflux, the BP the weight the 44DD too. so just do it you know you want to or you wouldn't have shared your life history with 17000 soon to be friends and thousands of internet lurkers. Sp get out your book and read up on induction and then just do it. Remember how good you felt when you were doing it after induction flu was goine. Weel you are just a few days away from that again.

Thanks for your support all. I'm back on the wagon and I'm going to check out the local curves in the next few days, I figure that might be a good place to start. Thanks for the suggestion of taking one thing at a time, it sure makes it feel less overwhelming. I'm here to stay. Wishing you all good health and success in your new way of life.
