  • Lower Your Blood Pressure Challenge

I don't know how we could do this, but it would be fun if we could have a Get off the Blood Pressure Meds Challenge.
If anyone has any ideas :wave :wave :wave :wave

I don't know how we can have a blood pressure challenge.

In 2004 I dropped 40# by eating low-carb and exercising extensively. I even got off all my blood pressure medication.

Then something happened in January; WHAT I don't know, but my blood pressure slowly started increasing. I have not gained an ounce, so the 40# are still gone. I'm still eating Low-Carb cause I have 20# more to lose according to my Dr. I'm still drinking water, still exercising 5 or 6 x weekly.....

So what happened to cause by BP to go from 110/70 to the high numbers of 155/105????

I went back on blood pressure medication on Wednesday and finally this morning we are seeing numbers back in the 110's / 80's range. Whew ----

but IMHO there's still so many 'things' that affect blood pressure that we just don't know what they are all yet. 'urplequ:'

How I wish I knew that by doing X, Y, Z I could have control over my Blood Pressure numbers. I eat low-carb, I exercise, I drink water, I have never smoked or used drugs, I eat low-salt too --- and I presently am a size 10 and all the folks around me 'think' I don't have any weight to lose.

At least it isn't out-of-control and off the charts like it was 14 months ago.

My BP was getting pretty high when the Medical Officer suggested Atkins rather than medication.

The dramatic fall in both weight and BP is noted below.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
      he said, 'Don't count calories.'
      --------------------------------------
Male 6 ft 3in 60 years old. Married 28 years.
Began Atkins March 04 at 260lb, reduced to 203lb by April 07 and maintained.
      Blood Pressure Mar 04 147/94 . Jun 04 121/74 . Dec 04 119/72 . Jan 06 126/71 . Dec 07 110/70
Atkins makes exercise mandatory - I took up cycling - see last pics at 203lb.

TWT, I was just reading an article about secondary High Blood Pressure, but I don't remember where it was. Soounds like what you might have. My blood pressure is very good, until I took a stress test and then it sored. I am not sure why, but they put me on meds after that.

Thanks for the Info Desertthorn --- I did a google on secondary BP and, yikes, sounds awful. But something I need to look into. My BP is back to the nice 105/77 range this morning since I went back on my meds.

Atkins did bring my BP down. Before Atkins it was 165/118 and I was maxed out on medication. I'm now taking 1/8th the medication dosage I was taking before Atkins and it is a nice 105/77 now.
