  • Hypertensive I.V.P. test Question-Help

Brief background---I was diagnosed with hypertension in 2000, went on meds, BP under control for a couple years. Jan '04 went on Atkins WOE, BP dropped, lost weight, got off hypertension medication Aug 04 --- Dr THRILLED with weight loss and that I was low-carbing to lose the weight. BP was low all fall and stayed off all medication--yes with my Dr approval.

Jan 05 BP started going up, and up; back on medication and to the same dosage as prior to weight loss ':sadblinky'

Today in Dr's office my BP was 154/95 ':yikes'

He ordered a slew of tests, including the hypertensive I.V.P. test which is scheduled for Monday mid-AM. I was just reading over the "diet guidelines" for this test. On Sat I can have clear liquids and a little chicken. Sunday is only clear liquids---OK, so of the things they list water or broth fit into my woe--all day.

How do I make it through?

    Anyone gone through this tes?

    Hi there TWTMhomeschoolMom :wave

I'm sorry about your troubles, but maybe this test will help find out what the problem is, and give your Dr. some insight on what's going on.

I have been reading about this test. It appears they are checking for kidney damage or kidney function? I know with hypertension, a lot of strain is placed on the kidneys. I have never had this particular test so I can't help with that.
As for the diet. I could suggest splenda sweetened jello. You can make your own using splenda and unflavored gelatin or Jolly Rancher brand is made with splenda. It's also very good hot in a coffee cup.
You could also get some bullion cubes. I know it's not much of a selection but decaf tea is another choice.
    I wish you the best.

Please let us know how your test goes.

    Hugs,Tammy
