  • Atkins and blood pressure

I got a copy of the newer Atkins book at the Salvation Army for $3.00, and have been reading it.

The book says that this diet will help lower your blood pressure. For those with high blood pressure, how long were you on the diet when you started to see a difference?

    Re: Atkins and blood pressure

I have moved the thread to the High Blood Pressure/Cholesterol forum, since the question is not necessarily related to the 14-day Induction phase.

The are some sticky threads in this forum that might answer your question. Below are the links to some, but check the others as well.

i felt a difference as soon as two months, and now going on 4, I had to have my bp med lowered to half the dose. Let me tell you it was really high.. dangerously so. Now, my bp reading are like this... 117/77 sometimes a little more, but it is such a far cry from what it was 31/2 months ago.Whew! What a relief.

That is one thing I'm really hoping to combat this time around. I'm currently on two meds for BP and one for cholestrol and have been since I was 29 years old. Before that I was a pretty faithful follower of the low carb lifestyle and inspite of the fact that I smoked like a chimney, drank like a fish and partied pretty heavily, I never had issues with my BP or cholestrol. It all came about after I let myself go to pot. Now that I'm a bit more grown up and have quit smoking and only drink on a few rare social occasions, I'm shooting for getting back off the meds.

I just went to the doctor today and they had to lower my BP meds. My BP was running 90ish/60ish. That is a good number but a tad bit low for me on meds. I was also feeling funny. I was on exforge 10/320 and she dropped it to 10/160 and told me to half my fluid pill. We'll see how that goes. I try to avoid extra sodium like the plague. I have been on the 14 day induction now day 12. I have been attempting induction for like a month and a half. I would have good days, then fall off, but now I'm Atkins for life!
