    Re: Coffee

thanks for that 2big but if you look at my stats it is obvious that coffee had been the one thing that is not an issue for me ..thank goodness....

I drink coffee three times a day ..with food and with out ....and have not had issue with it...or if I have it is so much a part of me that I am not aware of it ..either way ...

I love the Atkins way of eating and have stuck with it almost to the letter ...except coffee and my few slips over time....it is very hard to be perfect at anything ..so I gave that up a long time ago!

I went from the breast to the bean and imagine I will take my cup of coffee with me to my own funeral

2 one time daily for 2 weeks and so on I have almost kicked that habbit

                Re: Coffee

I had to make the switch to decaf in 1997 when I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome - caffeine is one of my triggers. I have one proper cup of filter coffee here at the office to kickstart my body and then it's decaf or herbal teas the rest of the day.

Not to mention lots and lots of water. It's the best!

                  Re: Coffee

read an interesting article this morning and thought I would leave it in here (in a nutshell).

Caffeine can cause dehydration. Dehydration leads your body to lower its tempature and go into fat storing mode. Nope..... not what I want to do!
So, if your going to drink coffee, then make sure you up your water. Or even better, nix the coffee and up your water!
Not only that I really hate the amount of carbs a good cup of coffee adds to my daily intake.

                    Re: Coffee

I LOVE my morning coffee!!! No one in my house even talks to me until I've had at least one cup.

But.......... I did give it up. In it's place is a nice hot cup of decaf green tea. Plain or with Stevia, it's my new morning addiction.

Yep the headaches were real fun to go through....... but it's been worth it. And that's what aspirin is for. I love smelling my husband's coffee, but it's tea for me!!

                      Re: Coffee

Excessive caffeine consumption can also lead to vitamin and mineral deficiencies, particularly vitamin C and calcium. At the extreme end of this syndrome, you may not be able to absorb these from mega dose shots or tablets. And if your body can't absorb calcium from what you are ingesting, it will leach it from your bones.

I broke a 20+ cup a day addiction about 15 months ago because of this. Cold turkey and yes it was horrific but it was better than having osteoporesis or being dead. This was before I started Atkins and I moved to a herbal coffee substitute. Unfortunately as these are cereal based, they aren't Atkins friendly. The headaches and difficulty sleeping lasted maybe 2 weeks.

I do have some decaf coffee now but try to stick mostly to drinking water.
