  • I am a cashew-aholic

Ok, a little lighter subject than normal for this forum, but...my name is Nikki...and I am a cashew-aholic.

It is horrible. I LOVE them! I have no portion control when I eat them. I keep telling myself, no more cashews...I will not buy anymore...but somehow, they end up in my shopping cart. I think they sneak up and jump in when I'm not looking. I eat them WAY too often, and WAY too many when I do!

Ok, I am admitting I have a problem. I thought maybe if I posted about it, I will be more accountable for my actions. NO MORE CASHEWS! That is my pledge.

Any other cashew-aholics out there? Or any other foods that you are addicted to that you shouldn't be eating?

Oh yes, cashewholic here too. I try to increase my exercise to an absurd level, so I guess I burn off the nuts... But still, I eat way too much and no, I cannot stay away from them in the stores! I know it's wrong and not worth it, but I just buy them and eat them and feel bad... I can't stop!

    Gah, it's imposible...

You CAN stop! I stopped! I haven't had cashews in over a month now! I seriously think it was an addiction. I used to think about cashews every day and now they don't even cross my mind. I've lost 9 pounds since I stopped, but I did make some other changes (stopped drinking diet soda, moved to OWL, eating better veggies).

I am going to start on the nut rung this week and I'm trying to decide if I want to add back in cashews or not. I think with all of my nuts, I'm going to need to portion them out into daily portions when I buy them, so I do not go overboard.

Maybe this will help you permanently get over them.

I too was a cashewaholic. I used to buy them by the ton at those bag-it-yourself places where you pay per pound. Bought some on a visit to grandmother's one day, at such a spot near her house. Brought them home, munched mindlessly on them for days until finally I told myself NO MORE CASHEWS and put them way up in an overhead cabinet, where they sat for about 3 weeks while I battled my addiction.

Then one day, I started noticing insects all over my kitchen. Not big scary ones, but little nuisance bugs, the size of gnats, only they didn't fly. I went to war with my kitchen, scrubbing every surface, spraying, laying down traps, I even got an exterminator in there, but they didn't disappear. Then I went to go put down traps in my cabinets, and that's when I saw a sight that made my skin absolutely crawl.

The bag of cashews I had hidden from myself was absolutely crawling with these little buggers. It finally dawned on me that something had laid eggs in one or more of my cashews, and they had hatched in my cabinet. That's what all the bugs were.

When I was about 8, I was munching on cashews while watching TV, and I was about to pop a broken one into my mouth, when I happened to glance at it. There was something moving in the hollow of it, tiny larvae. I was so skeeved out, I threw the nuts AND THE BOWL right into the trash, and didn't touch cashews for 10 years. It took me 10 years to get over that incident and finally welcome cashews back into my life, and now this happened. I can safely say I am over my obsession with cashews (although I do still eat a few from time to time, verrrrry cautiously).

        I hope that helps.

          Ahhhh ewww ick!! bugout!!

That would have traumatised me forever!!

The only thing that stops me from eating Cashews by the bucket is that they are MEGA expensive to buy in the UK.

That happened to me with Rice Krispies once. I was at a friends house and we were having cereal...looked down...let's just say Rice Krispy anything is completely safe around me.

Switch to salted almonds instead. I've seen some brands with only 3g's per serving.
