I feel the exact same way, although my dosing instructions were a bit different than yours, the outcome was the same.

Interesting. Everyone is so different. I felt the subtly within a day or two, okay that doesn't even make sense, but I just can't describe it. I literally would go all day and not even think about having a cigarette (unless my Mom called!). Then I just stopped entirely on maybe day 2 or 3. I figured, who was I kidding by continuing to smoke just because it was allowed?

Well, the good news is that I have made an appointment with my Doctor for this Wednesday January 16th to discuss the options of Zyban and Chantix. I am honestly looking forward to beginning this journey of quitting smoking!. I'll report after my Doctor visit.

I went to the Doctor today and got my prescription for Champix. The only thing I've heard about this medication is that many people become ill and or nauseated taking it? Was this the case for you?

            Re: Coffee and Cig Addictions

I'm with you, PeachyQ--I too love coffee. And I also used to love cigarettes. I used Nicorette gum and "quit cold turkey" using the gum. Then I was addicted to the gum and got over that by cutting down the number of pieces each day, then 1 each day, then 1/2 pc. each day...until I was down to 1/12th of a piece each day. Then I had to give up the 1 piece cut into 12 pieces. Took me a long time in total (18 months), but I have a good friend who took about 4 years--using the gum! I would have done it faster except my insurance company paid for the gum.

That was 18 years ago! I had smoked for 15 years.

I hate decaf coffee. Can only tolerate it with a sweetener and cream. So I have my reg. coffee for breakfast - 4 cups. Then sometimes later in the day for desert I have some decaf with sweetener and 1 tbsp heavy cream.

I also did Atkins 30 years ago & it went perfectly, and OWL went perfectly also. I'm over 60 now and it's much harder, but I just finished the first week of induction and lost 5 pounds. This Board is a big help, and really learning the book helps. I learned to keep the fat ratio up near 60% and perhaps higher. I want to lose 10 pounds and then stay right there.

Good luck with both the weight loss and smoking dilemma. Atkins can take care of the weight, and there seem to be many new aids to quitting smoking now. I'm sure one of them will suit your preferences. Do think about nicotine gum though as it provides some similarities to cigarettes: you have to reach for it, take it out of the wrapper, put it in your mouth. It takes a minute or so to feel the effect of the nicotine, but it works on the same principle as sublingual vitamins--some of the nicotine gets absorbed directly through your mouth tissues, bypassing the digestive system--then the rest gets absorbed through digestion. Just don't smoke and chew nicotine gum on the same day: you'll get sick.

Also: keep your sense of humor.

I quit smoking on Champix. I think it is a miracle drug to stop the physical cravings, although you alone have to break your habit. Without the craving for nicotine, I found I could fight the habit...and I am still smoke free. So I did get queasy sometimes, when I hadn't eaten or did not take enough water with it. It was never bad enough that I thought it wasn't worth it tho! Only other thing, is in my 3rd month on it, I wasn't sleeping at all, but the doc said that quitting smoking alone has been known to cause insomnia....and may not be the meds. So I took sleeping pills for 2 weeks to get myself back on track. I would recommend it 100%!!!!
