    Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

Thanks Joy I feel so proud of myself and very grateful to all of you that give me a little of your time to give me support, thanks!

Yesterday I went again to my friends house, to a barbacue, my friend went for beer and cigarrettes, and he bought a pack for me, he ask me, this is your brand, no? and I just smile and said to him, I dont smoke anymore, remember? and he was a little confused and ashamed hahahe but it was ok, that it was a long time custom, and that it would take them some time to realize that I was really quiting like I stop eating carbs.

I think a friend is going to try to do Atkins, but I dont see her that convinced, specially to live with this way of eating for the rest of her life, but maybe she will do it, I saw her very interested.

I still dont know how to celebrate hehehe got some ideas to share?

    Have a great day,

      Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

Well, I "celebrated" my quitting smoking by going out and being active. Actually, I started RUNNING believe it or not. There was something about each week feeling my lungs getting stronger and stronger. Other parts of me got stronger too (legs), but it was my lungs and heart getting stronger that really, to this day, inspires and motivates me to stay smoke free.

Are you doing any exercise yet?

        Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

Hi Joy, yes Im walking and working out, I started walking 2 miles and after I quit smoking I can do 3 miles in the same time (65 minutes) I know Im slow, but it has been a long time since I did exercise and I never walk 3 straight miles, so I feel really good, and I also want to start doing pilates and some yoga cause Im getting some leg cramps again and I need to do something for the stress, and yes, I can feel I can breath better each day it pass. I also feel my skin brighter and clean, the wrinkles are starting to disapear, so I can see only benefits with my decision

Right now I have a big leg pain because I did Gardening last saturday, I hardly finish my 2 hour routine this day, the back of my leg hurt a lot. I guess I need some rest, so I will take it slow.

        Have a nice day,

Rosa make sure you are getting enough water. Frequently the problem is not enough water as opposed to other things. Lots and lots of fresh, plain water. I'm so proud of you!

              Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

Thanks Joy, I'm drinking more water and I'm feeling better, also I think I have been overdoing the exercises, I mean, after a long time that I didn't do anything, suddenly Im doing 2 hours hehehe but ok, Im getting better at that, and quitting smoking has made it even easier, but sometimes I do end the workout completely exausted.

I want to start doing yoga, I need something to attack stress, cause the walking, and pilates and taebo or calistechnics arent doing that job.

I havent crave smoking at all... I can say now that I even feel disgusted when I smell someone smoking and I like that.

              Thanks for all the support!

                Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

Oh, I love yoga so so much! I didn't think I would, because I wanted a "Real" workout. Let me tell you that I get more of a strenuous workout in some of my yoga classes than I did in weight lifting. Yoga is a perfect combination of strength and stretch for your muscles. It is calming and soothing and has made me stronger and more limber. When i'm done with a yoga session...I feel better than I do when i go for a massage. Seriously.

Good job on staying smoke free!

                Never take another puff!

                  Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

I have a question for the non smokers! I quit 3 months ago, and then then started Atkins about 1 month ago, how has the weight loss been? I am sooo thrilled to not be smoking, but then the weight is holding this time...things are much slower... anyone else noticed this?

                    Re: Stoping the smoke addiction

my weight loss got a lot slower after I quit smoking, but I was VERY VERY close to goal at that time, too. So, i can't really say.

I also took up drinking coffee at that time and I'm not entirely convinced that the coffee has kept me losing slowly.

I read somewhere that it takes awhile for your body to stabilize metabolism.... so I am guessing that I am going to need to have some patience with all my lifestyle changes I am making. I don't mind, I feel great that I quit...and I have the time it takes to lose the weight!!!
