    Quitting smoking is easy . . .

    ¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than fighting cancer.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than breathing through tubes up your nose.

    ¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than having a Tracheostomy.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than losing your vision (AMD).

    ¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than COPD (emphysema).

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than your child seeing you die from cancer.

    ¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than losing a friend . . . or a friend losing you.

    ¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than hearing your doctor say, "I'm so sorry . . ."

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than laying in the hospital having radiation treatment.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than laying in the hospital wishing you could feel the sun.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than listening to your loved ones crying outside your hospital room.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than preparing for your funeral because the cancer has gone so far.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than picking out your favorite songs for your funeral.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than trying to say the right words because they will be your last.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than not seeing your child's face because of blindness.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than looking out the window knowing you can't go there anymore.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than changing your retirement plans.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than imagining your significant other being alone.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than going through your photo album with tears.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than telling your child you are dying young because you smoked.

¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than realizing smoking was more important to you than your life.

    ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ Easier than dying ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤ ¤

    Sound harsh? . . . good . . . because these words pale in comparison to the possible reality. Quit smoking . . . start living . . .

Elleth I quit 5 years ago this coming July and am thankful every day that I did. I used a hypnotist. Some people say it works, some don't but sure glad it did for me. One thing I notice is my kids don't get colds quite as often. My oldest was the only one born when I smoked and had a constant nagging cough. I tacked it up to everything I could, but would never admit my huffing down 2 packs a day in front of him could have anything to do with it. Hmmm, funny how I stopped DH stopped and so did his cough, stuffy nose etc.

I also used him for rationalization. I kept thinking how do I look at him and say "love to be around to see you graduate college but those smokes seemed so important". Nope thanks I will enjoy sitting at his wedding, graduations, etc someday without being on oxygen or disturbing everyone with smokers cough.

I have been considering quitting smoking...I started my new WOE and have done good with it...I had cut down to 3-4 cigs a day before my little brother died last month then I started full force again, now here I am back to a pack or more a day.

But Elleth I have always looked up to you as my role model on here with your weight loss and inspirational words...but this time

WHAMO!!! Smack me right in the face!!! This post just hit me like a ton of bricks and I can hear my 7yr old telling me "Momma do you know you are gonna die from smoking...don't you want to see me grow up?" That is what he told me yesterday and for some reason I blew it off and said "No I am not going to die, and I will always be here to watch you grow up" at the time I meant it as a way to get him to stop badgering me but it just hit me that I really do mean it and really want to quit. Where can I get that book?

Rockin my son was 6 when I quit and he remembers me smoking still. He's happy and appreciates that I don't anymore.

Congratulations on five years! I know hypnotism sometimes gets a bad rap, but real or not, I believe it helps to get your mind prepared for quitting and that is key to a successful quit.

The book should be at any Books-a-million or Barnes & Noble store. You can also get it from Amazon. I will encourage you to set a date and start preparing for it. One key thing is to hunt for hidden cigarettes and get rid of them. You don't want to put on a coat and reach into a pocket and find a half a pack in there when you are in the middle of a craving. I am so glad you decided to quit! It is one of the best decisions you can make for you and your seven year old. When you are ready, come join me in my daily pledge and make a promise to not smoke each day.
