Has anyone had a problem with drinking, and stopped drinking due to their new found way of eating(Low-Carb)? For me I love beer and pizza but I usually go a little overboard on the beer. I don't want to say I have a problem with drinking but I think I really do. Well this is my first post on this forum and Im happy to say that I have been on induction since march 1st and I have been sober for almost 10 days which is the longest i can recall in about a year and a half. Anyways I'm just seeing if anyone else has had a similar problem? Any encouragement could help.

    Thanks
    jp

    p.s. I've lost 12 pounds in 9 days

Hi jp - Congratulations on the fantastic weight loss! And, the 10 days sober!! Way to go!

I used to drink vodka every day and the alcohol actually contributed (among other things) to about 40 lbs. of my excess weight.

If you feel you should quit drinking for whatever reason and are finding it difficult to do so, don't be afraid to seek help. Look in your phone book under Alcoholics Anonymous. They can provide you with a list of meetings in your area. AA offers a wonderful source of support and they have lended their 12 step program to many other organizations who also find it extremely useful. If attending meetings in person is not an option for you, there are also AA groups online that you can be a part of. I'm not suggesting you're an alcoholic by any means just because you love beer and go a little overboard with it but AA is for anyone who wants to stop drinking. Just know that they're there if you ever want or need them.

We have things we associate with others like beer goes with pizza. When I quit smoking I had to give up coffee because I could never do one with out the other.

Its not my place to say you are an alcoholic but I'll tell you any day you dont put beer, nicotine, drugs or carbs into your body is a day you are healthier then you were the day before.

        JP,

        Welcome!

Atkins will change your life - abusing alcohol will destroy any positive payoff you can derive from Atkins and they are many.

As a recovering alcoholic and drug addict ( 5 years clean & sober) I don't grandstand or preach but it nets out to this.

There's the same amount of alcohol in beer and wine as in one ounce (a shot) of 80 proof Vodka. Then only thing that different is the percentage of volume. Beer has a lot of water so low alcohol content right?...wrong. It has the same content as a Martini it's just the volume ration is different.

        Are you an alcoholic?

Do you drink in the morning? if you drink past midnight, that's the morning my friend

Ever miss work, cancel out of an obligation because you were hung over, or just "not feeling well"...big red flag.

JP, Heroin users don't have a "heroin problem" Cocaine users don't have a "Cocaine Problem" they're addicts - period. There's no such thing as a "drinking problem" you're either an alcoholic or your not. Are there degrees of alcoholism? absolutley.

Do they all lead to the same place...liver disease, heart disease, wasted and destroyed lives?...you can count on it.

JP, see if you can do the self diagnosis test, you'll learn a lot about both yourself and your relationship with alcohol. It's simple starting right now, go for 30 days without a single drink, not one beer, not one glass of wine - zip, zero zilch. It's only a month so for most people it's a cake walk. For an alcoholic? it's impossible.

As for Atkins you couldn't be in a better place than starting this way of life and for both that and your honesty I congratulate you.

i should look at the Caeb issue the same way i looked at the other substances that was ruling my life. Hopefully it will click soon like the others. Its noce to know there are others out there with simular issues.
          Bye!

            Hi Jue,
I sometimes think food addictions are just as hard, if not harder to overcome than some of the other substance abuses like alcohol, nicotine, drugs, etc. None of these are vital to survival but food is so we have to learn how to make the best food choices and even when we know what those are, it's not always easy to do. Being addicted to certain foods can have just as much of a stronghold over us, I think, as any other addiction.

Just keep hanging in and don't give up. Glad you're with us.
