  • I made it thru caffeine withdrawal

My last major hurdle for getting into this WOE was my caffeine addiction.

I used to own a coffee shop and every morning I would have to calibrate the machine. That meant my day started with 4 or 5 shots of espresso. Add to that drinks thru the day and I was drinking a couple of grams of caffeine a day. 2500-3000mg per day was average.

I dropped it down to 600-700mg per day and could never drop it below that without migraines. Well, this time I decided to go cold turkey.

I had the migraine from **** last night. Lasted 12 hours. I was throwing up, sweating, shaking, the whole nine yards. it was not fun, but if I am to be committed to this WOE, then I needed to do it.

Today, I hurt all over, my ribs are sore from bowing at the porcelain altar, somehow, I hurt my hip, and I want to sleep. But at least the headache is over.

I don't want this to sound like whining, because I don't want it to. I got myself hooked on the stuff, and now I beat it. I feel victorious! I just hope that this post will encourage someone else to get off caffeine.

Now to go drink more water!!!

Re: I made it thru caffeine withdrawal

Awesome job, When I was pregnant with my daughter, who is now just over 4 years old, I decided to give up Caffeine. I went years without having any. I didn't go through any withdrawls b/c I was not addicted.

When I started working 12 hour shifts over night as a police officer, I thought I had to have that Diet Mountain Dew to stay awake and alert.. I started having a bottle a night that I worked. and not the little 20 ounce bottles, I had to have the liter size.

Finally after about a month of overnight shifts. I decided I didn't need to drink Soda anymore. So I just stopped.
So, I no longer drink any soda or Tea.

That is pretty brave of you. Going cold turkey like that takes some courage. Way to be committed.

I just know me. If I decided to do the gradual thing, I would never have done it.

I'm a cold jive turkey. Or something.

My wife was ready to kill me last night. I was not a nice person. At least I warned her that I was going off caffeine, so she was ready. She is a saint!

          Day three of caffeine withdrawal.

I am getting these weird headaches. They seem to come in waves.
Not as bad as the big one, but they hurt when I turn my head.

And I am still in a bad mood. I still feel like flippin the bird to anyone who talks to me. I hope this goes away soon. I was not a happy camper at church. The music was loud (which I normally like) and I had a few headache waves hit me.

I will continue to post these little reports until these symptoms pass. I have read that it can take up to 2 weeks to get over the addiction, especially in someone addicted like I was.

            Day FOUR!!!!

I woke up without a headache!!!!!!

            I FEEL GOOD!!!

Finally, I think I am actually able to function normally. I don't feel as mean as I was. I think my sense of humor has returned. I don't feel like killing anyone.

Funny thing. I am mildly diabetic, and in the last couple of days my sugar is lower than it has been in the past month.

            Another plus!!!

If anything else happens in regards to this caffeine process I will post it, but I think I am done with this story. 4 days. Yep, it was worth it!! Just another small victory in this WOL!!
