  • Zyban/Wellbutrin question

Anyone on zyban? My fiance is on it, it's pretty much the same as wellbutrin I think. he's a little edgy, but it seems to work. I don't know why it works tho... can anyone explain? He quit smoking when he realized I had basically quit. He had a doctor appt that day so he had the doc write him the prescription.
We've both been basically smoke-free for 2 weeks today (although he relapsed the other day and smoked three because something bad happened at his job he claims). Our house smells nicer, crisper. My clothes are amazingly fresh now... I did so much laundry this past weekend I probably drained Niagara falls!

I'm going to take a stab at it. I think it does something with the chemical balance in the brain. My doctor put me on Wellbutrin originally for anxiety but he said it would also help me quit smoking.

It does take the cravings away, however I have not picked a day to quit yet.

    Hope that helps..? :wave

Thanks I was considering maybe getting it myself but he's been so wired from it I'm afraid to try it. He's got way too much energy that his body can handle and he's very irritable.

I have heard that from others who have taken Zyban. Even though Wellbutrin is the same thing, people seem to respond to it better. Maybe he should talk to the doctor and get the dosage changed...?

Good luck to both of you! :joy

Thanks a lot I think I'll ask him to do that

My best friend claims it helped her stop smoking, so I think it's an option for you. I am considering it too, but seeing how cold turkey goes.

Yeah... so far I've been cold turkey for 2 weeks, but I'm really nutty and really want to ignore the want to use my hands and mouth. It's not so much a nicotine desire right now though.

I think the urge to smoke, once you get past ridding the body of nicotine and tar and god knows what else, is all in our heads. I guess I just need something to do with my hands, otherwise I really don't see WHY I would smoke. I remember when I was a child, and I hated smoking with a passion, tried it once and almost threw up. I wish I could go back again and never start. All it took was a few ciggies and I was hooked. And of course I see teenagers smoking everywhere. I wish there was something that could be done, really done to let kids know not to start, or even try any type of nicotine. It's just so addicting. Anyway, have a great smoke-free day!
