  • Addicted to Caffiene

Getting off of coffee is very hard to do.

I used to drink 4 or 5 cups a day and then a large diet coke later in the day too. But because my BP was high, I had to cut back.

Before coming back onto Atkins, I was limiting myself to only 2 cups of coffee a day and rarely having any diet soda. I did indulge myself in a Starbucks mocha or a frappacino way too often though.

So when I went back on Induction, I completely cut it out. The first week, I was really wanting it bad. The second week was better. I found some decaf in the freezer and bought some heavy cream. The more I thought about it though, the more I knew I needed to stop completely. So backin the freezer it went.

Just finishing up week three and I still want some (especially in the morning) but I got my jug of water and am doing without just fine. Still, there seems to be a social aspect to drinking coffee (i.e., coffee breaks) that will sabotage your best efforts.

I have had an occasional herbal tea and that seems to help me, especially during these winter storms that are rolling thru this time of year.

    Stay strong.

Great post Polar. We all need to abandon our additions to everything.

Way to go -- it's hard to get off caffeine but it sounds like you are doing a good job of it....once in awhile a decaf could be a treat like your herbal tea is.

The water is so much better for you than anything else so keep up the good work.

        Re: Addicted to Caffiene

I seem to have passed the critical point in my coffee/caffiene addictions. I'm not craving it at all. I was gonna start doing a cup of decaf a day, but decided to wait another week or so, since I just moved up to OWL Rung 1. Since I like my coffee with cream & Splenda, I'll most likely wait until I am at Rung 2.

Agh! I can't seem to stop drinking coffee....Being that I am a barista its makes it that much more difficult! I am around it everyday! I am only on day 4 of induction, running 3 miles a day and on my feet all day with work, and being that I don't have a car, walking or biking everywhere. I guess coffee has taken the place for sugar. I was drinking 3-4 cups of coffee a day and now I am only drinking about 2-4 shots of espresso with a half and half and one sweetener.
I've been feeling a little light headed in the mornings and every now and then get some dizzy spells! Any one else experiencing that? May be I need to cut back on the caffeine?

            with a half and half
If you are following DANDR 2002, which is the book followed at ADBB, half and half is not acceptable on Induction. Cream is.

I would suggest posting a complete menu in the Review My Menu forum, with quantities and net carbs for everything. This is the link to that forum:

              Re: Addicted to Caffiene

oh cool thanks! I guess I just assumed cream and half and half were the same thing. Good to know. I know I am consuming a lot of calories, at least enough to make me full! Thanks for the info I'll do that.
It might be the water! I am so busy through out the day and with the flooding here, we have a bit of a water shortage, I have been drinking about 6 cups a day at the most...so thats probably it. Thanks for your help!
