    Negative effects of caffeine

    In high doses, caffeine can cause:

    Rapid heartbeat
    Irritability
    Insomnia
    Anxiety and nervousness
    Dehydration from diuresis (that irksome need to pee in large quantities)
    Indigestion
    Lack of concentration
    Muscle twitching
    Some people get used to these negative side effects and find that they need more and more caffeine to bring on the stimulation they crave. Since caffeine is addictive, withdrawal often causes headache, irritability, insomnia and lack of concentration.

    one very big thing weight loss folk should know about caffeine is it stimulates the production of insulin in the presence of food and insulin is a fat storing hormone so those dietary fats you just ate are being stufed in your fat cells :yikes if you had caffeine with them.

      I have read that " excessive caffeine has been shown to cause low blood sugar, which can make you crave sugar".
      Ok, but how about having 1 cup of coffee before breakfast, so that the blood sugar won't have a chance to fall down?
      And may I just ask what source your info is from? :geek

          I have found some information that shows that caffeine's influence IS different when we eat ( carbohydrates) or fast. Here:

          "Participants were then fed a liquid meal containing 75 grams of carbohydrates and another 125-milligram caffeine capsule or placebo. Additional blood samples were taken an hour and two hours following the meal.


          The study showed that caffeine had little effect on glucose and insulin levels during the fasting period, but it caused significant surges after eating a meal. People who received the 375-milligram dose of caffeine experienced a 21% larger increase in glucose levels and a 48% larger increase in insulin levels compared with those who took the placebo during the two hours following their meals.             Caffeine's affect on me --- raises my blood pressure.

            Documented via my at-home monitor. Even with my hypertension medication I must avoid all caffeine or my BP will go up, up, up.
