So, I have made it two weeks. I want to thank everyone for there encouragement and words of wisdom. I like being smoke-free. I like not smelling of stall cig. I am most thankful that my daughter doesn't have to smell them anymore. Yes, I am still mean, but not as frequent. I know I haven't got it beat yet. Please Keep me in your thoughts.

hey, pockets, good on you!!! that is GREAT news! I will pray that you are able to stick with the quit. I don't know first hand about it, but I have 6 or 7 friends who have done it, and have heard their stories.
If you're interested, somewhere on line there is a "quit smoking meter" that tells you how many cigs you haven't smoked since your quit, how much $$ you've saved (cha-CHING!) and how much your life has been extended. When I see that on my friends' e-mails, it is REALLY COOL to see it in action. One friend quit about 5 months ago and has saved over $1500!!!
I'm really happy for you, I think it's such good news when someone tackles an addiction like that. I find it really inspriing, since my addiction is to emotional eating.
Bravo!! :dancing

Yea Quitters!
Hi to all you non smokers!
I too quit 1/3/05. Was chewing nicorette and eating lots since then. I'm back at Atkins after 7 years maintaining my weight. I had to give myself a break to get over the no smoking hump. Quit the nicorette (has no no ingredients in it) the same day I started Atkins and started with the patch, which frankly, makes my arm itch. Someone told me if your don't do something 1000 times, you will be free of habit! So, if you WERE a pack a day smoker in 50 days you should be over the urge to smoke...HAH! Day by day and it does get easier!

Thanks to the welcoming comittee! You guys are very smart to Atkins and quit smoking at the same time. I'm not quite that smart, thus the weight gain! Now however, I can calm my urge to smoke AND eat to my heart's content. What could be better? Well, maybe a little exercise too, but I gotta go one step at a time now! Went to a Yoga class this morning....comfirms it...not ready for serious exercise yet! Thanks again for the support!

Oh, thanks everyone. :hug :hug I am still hanging in there. Believe you me it has been hard. (very hard). Today is day 20. Yes, I am feeling better. I am having a hard time sleeping, but I am told that should pass after this week. Sillygirl, come visit me in the journals. You can read how mean and ugly I was at first. I still have those moments just not as many and not as bad.

you my dear could never be mean and ugly, never! we will blame anything on the surge of oxygen that was sweeping over your brain!

Hey Pockets. You're doing fine....keep going. I will read your journals when I can figure out how to! Me personally, going on 6 months smoke free. I'm weaning myself from the patch as well, BUT being that it was a Monday and all, I put 1/2 of one on before work today! Talk about mean and ugly!!!! Honest, it will get better and easier with each passing day. Don't you think it's harder to lose weight, than it is to quit smoking? I sure do, but granted, they are both REALLY REALLY HARD!

Congratulations! I quit smoking (cold turkey), cut out caffiene, alcohol (drank about three days a week), and started Atkins all in the same day - May 1. I haven't smoked in 27 days, haven't cheated on Atkins and I'm hanging in there. I was already down 10 lbs, but have lost another 13 now since I started back on May 1. I told my husband if I was going to be miserable (no caffiene, alcohol, sugar, nicotine), I'd prefer to be miserable for a week or so 1 time rather than miserable while kicking the sugar, then try to quit smoking and end up cheating on my diet and gaining weight that I'd already lost and having to start all over again. Figured I'd bite the bullet and get it all done in one big bang!
